DH says that since the doctor said the GF diet is all he needs, we shouldn't even try SCD. Meals aren't an issue because I have always done all the cooking and I refuse to make different meals, whether it's because of medical need or weightloss diet or different tastes. If someone doesn't like, they go to bed hungry and that includes DH, unless he goes out to buy something. The SCD > goodies are very tasty and don't taste at all like the cardboard gf > stuff. > It's not GF stuff, which is the problem. Older DS and DH both can eat whatever they want. Since he knows it's just for him (and DS) he gets " the real stuff " , like goldfish crackers, ritz with peanutbutter, ect. He even bought some illegal peanutbutter because he doesn't like the natural. I've always let him have wheat bread and other stuff that he just brings in his lunchbox, but school is out, so he wants that stuff at home. Guest guest
, What would convince your husband that SCD is better than GF? Testmonies of adults who have done both? You saying that you feel better on SCD than GF? I still say that your husband should keep his junk food to himself. He is teaching your older son that junk food is better than nutritious whole foods. Do you think he would at least agree to that? I don't see how anyone could resist peanut butter cake or the cashew muffins. The SCD stuff tastes good and is really nutritious too. And in the long run it will cause resentment by your younger child when he perceives that daddy favors your older son's diet and excludes him from the " fun " . As for breakfast and lunch, use the same rule you have for dinner. Eat or go hungry. Your five year old will eventually eat, expecially if you serve the best SCD treats every day. My stepfather is a biologist at NIH. When I first got my copy of BTVC, I asked him to read it and take it into the lab to have the scientist give me their opinion. They all thought that that the book had too many holes. My stepfather told DH that he thought it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. > > You saying that you feel better on SCD than GF? > I don't feel better yet. I have done as long at one week on the intro without improvement and sometimes I feel worse. > > I don't see how anyone could resist peanut butter cake or the > cashew muffins. The SCD stuff tastes good and is really > nutritious too. I haven't liked any of the baked goods. I can't stand the taste of honey and I've tried every variety that I've found locally. The buckwheat honey made me gag when I tasted it. I made the spice cake and vanilla frosting from Lucy's Kitchen Shop cookbook for my birthday and threw it out. It was nasty and the frosting was disgusting. > > As for breakfast and lunch, use the same rule you have for > dinner. Eat or go hungry. Lunch is the only meal where people get what they want, which I don't mind.
Guest guest
I myself have never liked honey. My husband would try to get me to take honey by making me tea and putting it in it but I would always sneak some sugar into it when he wasn't looking (confession time). Going on this diet as a family was actually my husband's idea which sounded like torture to me but I was willing to do it for the sake of my little ones. Before going on the diet, I bought some SCD legal cookies from Digestive Wellness. I let each person in the family try one so they could get a taste for what they were in for. We all choked it down yet my daughter spit hers out. A week after starting the diet I pulled the same package of cookies out. Everyone, including my daughter begged for a second one. We had to have sugar completely out of our system in order to appreciate the natural sweetness of honey. Soon, I was drinking tea everyday with honey and loving it. Now I am off the diet again due to pregnancy (SCD food makes me sick). Once again I cannot drink tea with honey in it. The SCD baked goods are nasty tasting. I now know just a little bit of sugar ruins the taste buds and prevents an appreciation for healthy food. > > I can't stand the taste of honey and I've tried every > variety that I've found locally.
