Guest guest
I got the " Klez " ??? virus at work last week. I got an e-mail from someone I had never heard of ( " lange " ) titled " Garden of Eden " with an attachment. I'm not stupid enough to open or even read this, but my 'puter wouldn't even let me delete the e-mail! It would freeze my screen, say, " This program has caused an illegal operation and you will be shot at sunrise, " or something like that. Then it would close Microsoft Outlook (my work e-mail program). I notifed the necessary people, and I got CHEWED OUT for having the UNMITIGATED AUDACITY to have been using the " Preview Pane. " I'm just a big-old dumbass, is what she implied. You know, where it splits the screen in two halves (top shows the e-mails' subject and sender, bottom show the beginning, or " preview " of the message. " Using this option in Outlook AUTOMATICALLY reads e-mails as they come. So my computer read this infected e-mail without my doing anything, and I got the virus. I survived, but this particular virus has infected some entire school districts so badly in West Texas that their computer networks have been down for 2+ weeks. So... if you have Outlook, don't use the Preview Pane. Nate --- wrote: > Has anyone here gotten the loverletteras virus??? Guest guest
Well I'll be sure to send you a new giant pic of me to make up for all those lost images :-) I store lots of my ' precious' JPEG pics straight onto good old 31/2 inch floppy's, not all of us can afford CD burners or memory sticks and you can store dozens of pics on a floppy. BAcking up is a PAIN but it sure works in times of crisis M going to update NORTON right now

Guest guest
Well, (For the record: I use the preview pane) instead of the preview pane, you can click on each mail individually to open it and read it. This would let you delete things without reading it. Nate, if your school is using Exchange (if you can do group calendaring and such, it's exchange) it's actually the techie who should be fixing it so those emails are killed before they even get to you hehehe Pete Re: loveletterAS virus How do you NOT use the preview pane ? m ----- Original Message ----- From: " and Christi Waldrip " \
Guest guest
How do you NOT use the " preview Panel " ? I just got a new computer - today - and my son set up the Norton to run Live Advisor every time you go on line; I have always had my Outlook in the " preview panel " as you say, as I did not know I had a choice; yet Norton, in the past. would catch viruses. Pete, am I protected, even from the Klez, or as says, do I need to do something not to have the " preview screen " ??? marie Re: loveletterAS virus > I got the " Klez " ??? virus at work last week. Guest guest
I was the same as you; I had ALWAYS used it. But when explained to me why it should not be on there, it makes sense. Our school has an excellent anti-virus protection that catches almost everything, but this slipped through. I was upset that THEY were upset; how was I supposed to know? In Outlook, click on View, then click on Layout. It has a box that says " Preview Pane. " Just take the check-mark off there, and the Pane goes away!
