Guest guest
hi I have a four year old son with autism and seizures. We have chelated with DMSA alone (suppository form, prescribed by Dr. Holmes) and stopped afer a few months. I may have to use DMSA in some form that my son can have disguised and I wonder if anyone elses child has seizures and uses DMSA. Also has anyone had luck with just ALA? Guest guest
Donna, We're chelating a 19 yr old with seizures and have seen no increase in seizure activity that I can relate specifically to chelation. Her seizures have been well controlled by diet. Summer 2000 we began GFCGSF and amazingly found after an initial learning curve that her seizures are almost totally related to diet. The beginning of this diet was quite unsettling as she had a few days of many, many seizures, tapering as the days went and gone by day 5. Now they occur like clockwork 8-12 hours after ingesting an offending item. Both gluten and casein anything still trigger seizures and other things(peanut, chocolate, high phenol) put her into what I term 'pre- seizure' mode. None of these items registered on allergy evaluations. We did traditional and non. During this time (chelation) we've actually been able to dramatically reduce her seizure med. Tegretol SR has been reduced to 50mg hs('a homeopathic dose' is how the doc who helps us with tests terms it) from a high of 600-700 per day. I learned that this med as manufactured has a milk coating so I have it compounded. From our experience, I would encourage those with seizure prone children to look closely at a diet connection. Do you increase the childs seizure meds? Did your child have any problems with seizures while chelating? Donna
