Guest guest
Hi Everyone-- I've been reading a lot about MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) the last couple days. The info I've gathered has really piqued my curiosity in this supplement. It's supposed to help with a variety of conditions, most notably the inflammation associated w/arthritis, GI disorders (like acid reflux and constipation), and allergies. It's been studied primarily for these indications, but there is also anectdotal evidence that it may assist in healing damaged skin. Some people have been using with success to treat acne. Sounds interesting, but I'm still a little skeptical. I know someone on this board has recently begun using it, and someone else used it with negative results. Anybody else heard of this or have experience with it? Perhaps Tricia can help us figure out what this is exactly and whether or not it could benefit rosaceans? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I'm trying MSM, on the advice of Dr. Nase. I'm taking a 500mg capsule 3 times a day. Its hard to say what affect, if any, the supplement has had because I'm also having photoderm and am taking 300mgs of grapeseed extract and 3000mgs of ester C daily. All combined, I have improved considerably. I have had 6 photoderm sessions so far and am about 90% improved. I plan to have 2 more, then take a break. On a side note, I've read that you should not take MSM if you are pregnant. Guest guest
Ive read about MSM on this site : http://www.health-n-energy.com sounds like it is something to consider although I know there are those that avoid sulfur containing products. Sulfur is very cleansing and detoxifying which is probably why people have " adverse " reactions to it. Those " reactions " are most likley a good thing and should be encouraged to continue. Until you have cleansed your body and allow it to heal itself and until it is given the proper nutrients that it requires to do this job, it is my belief (and that of others with degrees and credentials that far exceed my own) that your health concerns will not go away, they will be " masked " at best. Guest guest
Hi Meg-- Wow! Glad to hear you're so much improved! It's comforting to know that Dr. Nase approves of trying the MSM. He's taken such an active interest in helping us that I can't imagine he would advocate anything that would be harmful. I really like the idea of MSM due to its supposed anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation seems to be a big component of my rosacea, and while a combo of minocycline and photoderm has controlled it very well, I certainly don't want to be taking an antibiotic on a regular basis indefinitely. It would be nice to have an equally effective long-term alternative to maintain the benfits I've been deriving from photoderm. What brand of MSM are you taking? Thanks, and continued good luck and good health to you... --- Meg Edelson wrote: > I'm trying MSM, on the advice of Dr. Nase. I'm > taking a 500mg capsule > 3 times a day. Guest guest
Thanks for the link, Tricia! I have read about the detox reactions you mentioned--I found some decent websites that discuss these as well as the usual stuff about MSM. Any idea how long these " adverse effects " usually continue and what they consist of (I've read that headaches, fatigue, and skin rashes are often how they are manifested)? Thanks again--it's good to have a pro on board! --- TRICIA wrote: > Ive read about MSM on this site : > > http://www.health-n-energy.com > > sounds like it is something to consider although I > know there are those that > avoid sulfur containing products. Guest guest
Not really. Vitamin Shoppe has 200 Natrol capsules for about $14.00.
