Q's on a few foods.....legal/not legal?

Okay, I read about the hot dogs a while back, but I have found a

brand that only contains beef, honey, mustard seed and one other

spice (can't remember.) Would these be legal? Applegate Farms lists

corn as an ingredient, so why would these be legal? I am desperate

to find a good, uncured dog for my son who LOVES Shelton's chicken

dogs, but now cannot have them.

We are considering allowing some dairy on this diet for him, as he's

sown no reaction in the past. I am making the yogurt now. I want to

buy butter, but am I looked for ghee or raw butter or something else?

What about cheeses. I read all the legal cheeses in the book, but

then I read a post about it having to have been aged a certain amount

of time? Can someone tell me about this, as I don't remember this in

the book.

Peas are okay?

I am sure I am going to have more Q's soon, and I thank you for

taking the time to help me out. This list is amazing-you all are

such a wealth of knowledge for all of us newbies!!

I just picked up a package of Hebrew National kosher hotdogs the other day.....

for my other family members that are not on the diet. They have several

illegals.... so would definitely not be OK SCD. I don't know about other brands.

Just depends...... you have to read labels. But then, you ALSO have to TRUST the

company with your child's health. I'd rather cook my own meats and keep it

simple.

Welcome to the list!

Hot dogs--

The one way to make 100% sure that they are legal is to make

them yourself.

We are still waiting to hear from Applegate Farms again.

The ingredients you listed might be okay, but " mustard " and

" spices " are vague terms.

As for butter, I just get pure organic butter from the HFS.

Cheeses: buy the ones that are listed as legal in the book. Don't

buy processed " cheddar " . No fake stuff. Just the real thing. :)

The types of cheeses listed are aged cheeses.

Peas are fine, but not usually introduced early in the diet.

Thank you! I can only get those at one grocery store and I haven't looked at

the ingredients yet - now I know!

I can't find any legal sausage either. Does anyone know of any? Or is there a

spice recipe so I can make my own 'sausage flavored' meat? I saw that ground

turkey, which we use all the time, contains 'natural flavors'. Does anyone know

a brand of ground turkey that we can use legally?

Definitely avoid the ground turkey with the " natural flavors " . I buy ground

chicken and turkey at Wild Oats (natural food store). That's the only place in

my area that has it without additives.

" I can't find any legal sausage either "

I know you'd like another answer, but here's my

suggestion/experience. What I did was go to my (excellent) butcher

and ask if he would make sausages for my son. We now have 20 frozen

legal chicken sausages (ingr.: chicken, salt, pepper). The butcher

was really happy he could contribute to my son's health.
