I'm in Dallas also :-)

Well I would just like everyone to know that Davian starting biting today :-(

The little turkey bit me and then let go so I didn't even have time to pull

him against my breast and all I could do was cry because I could just see

nursing ending very soon. Any suggestions would be great. I did take him

away and not let him have any more milk for a while.

Definitely worth a shot... " Starve the suck, not the baby. "

As little as you're giving as a supplement anyways, you could probably

easily skip it for maybe three days and then be caught up to where your

baby needs your supply to be. Three days isn't enough to harm your baby's

health either, but definitely enough to boost your self-confidence so that

you can keep skipping the supplements and rebuild your supply. What are

you doing this weekend? :)

Hi !

Ok here is the doozy on trying to get my supply up and why we have so

much trouble. I work on the weekends usually Friday evening ( no

problem there cause its only 4 hours). Saturday (usually from 8 or 10

am till 8 pm and on sunday from 9 to 6 pm. My job is very hectic as a

dog groomer -excuse me , pet stylist! - I usually can only pump once a

day. And out of that pump I maybe get two ounces total. I try so hard

to fit in more pumps but when your on somebody else schedule and the

customer usually shows up early, It's hard to even know when I will get

to go to the bathroom much less have 15 min of privacy. I could do less

dogs a day and have more time but since I only work parttime I need to

make my 100-150 a day and do those 7 or 8 dogs. so by the time monday

rolls around my supply cuts out and we work on it all week and thursday

is always a great day but then here comes work weekend. Any

suggestions? I may have more time and this may not have to nbe such a

problem anymore as hubby and I are not getting along and I may be going

home to california for a while, then I can quit stressing so much!

Untill we have something worked out Its a viscious circle!

If you're only pumping once in 8-12 hours, there's not anyone or anything

that you can do to help you build your supply. No herbs or drugs will help

much either. It's a simple law of Supply and Demand. Basically, your

breasts will only produce as much milk as is removed from them. The more

milk you remove (by nursing best, then pumping) the more you make, and the

opposite is true... the less you remove, the less you make.

For $100-150 a month, I would look for a home-based business. You could

sell kitchenware for $100-150 month income and only leave your house twice

a month! You could alter your skills some and go into dog-sitting services

for $100 a month. I'm really not judging you, I'm trying to help you see

that you have other options.

At the very least, maybe you could block off some part of your schedule for

your baby. I think she's the most important customer in your life right now.

Hi ,

Since its Sat. you might not get to your email for a while. What I

want to say is and I'm sure other moms have experienced this too-is

that nothing is a stressful on a marriage as a baby. Whoever came up

with this " Save my marriage-have a baby " concept is nothing short of an

idiot!!(Not to imply that you were in that sitation) This baby thing

throws even the best marriages for a loop. The whole dynamic of your

relationship has changed. You have this amazing, new, totally

absorbing and completely demanding little creature who is utterly

dependent on you. We all know how exhausting caring for a baby is, but

most men don't have a clue. Having a baby often changes you, what you

value, your view of the future. Your husband might not be experiencing

these changes as profoundly.

Try to remember the man you feel in love with and married. Can you

talk to each other without anger? It seems as if there is not much

time for you to spend together since you're working on weekends. Maybe

this Friday night you two can take a walk together. Is there a nice

park nearby? I have found nature to be very calming. Look at the

stars, hold hands, try to recapture what you once felt for each other.

Your Peach needs you. I would never recommend staying in an unhealthy

marriage, but as difficult and trying as motherhood is, single

motherhood is at least twice that.

As far as pumping goes, is there any way to sneak in an extra pumping

session during the days you are home? Try pumping after a shower or

bath (if there's not a screaming baby waiting to be picked up) Have you

tried fenugreek? This herb is known to increase supply. As the Peach

is nearing 6 months are you considering adding solids?

Because everything, home, work, is so stressful, you might be having

trouble with your let downs. What I mean is, you might be too tense to

let down to the pump, especially at work where you are trying to sneak

a few minutes and don't know when you'll be interrupted. Can you pump

in your car by any chance? At least there you might have some peace

and privacy. According to State and Federal work regulations you are

entitled to lunch and breaks. If you can pump in the morning after

Peach nurses before dh goes to work maybe he'd be willing to give you a

little shoulder massage while you're pumping to help you relax. Try

aromatherapy. Those oils can be very relaxing. I know telling someone

to relax, and knowing you should relax are a lot easier than actually

doing it. Above all, DON'T beat yourself up about this. You are doing

a great job of giving your baby all the bm you can. How many mothers

give up long before 6 month? TOO MANY! You are hanging in there doing

what you can. You are a human being, too. You have needs, too. Try to

keep this in perspective. If she gets 2 oz. of formula a day, she is

still getting 20 - 30 oz (or more) of breastmilk--your breastmilk--made

just for her. What an accomplishment!

Barbara,

Great advice. I have a really hard time letting down nursing and almost

impossible to the pump. I have found that deep breathing helps more than

anything. Just taking a few moments at the beginning of nursing to just

let my body unwind and my brain slow down really helps me to have a longer

more effective nursing session. I think so many women are so stressed and

pushed to their limits that we all have the opportunity to relax a little

each time we sit down to nurse the baby. Don't think about what's coming

next just be there with your baby for those few precious moments and it can

really change the entire stress level of the day. :D

I make 100 -150 A DAY! There is no home business that will make me that

much for me. i would drop it out but unfortunatley we are in debt up to

our eyeballs and the car payments have to be made. But you are right

about the supply and demand ,. I am gonna try to make more of an effort

to go....what do you think about every 3 hours? Do you think that would

be good? If this was 100 a month I wouldn;'t even bother!

Barb that was such a nice post to me .Thank you so much. I know

marriage gets strained. We were together for four years before baby,

And there are numerous things tthat has got him cornered. Take your

pick, hes in the military ,just had a baby and doesn't get all the

attention he used too, he has no idea what he wants to do with his life

.. I know in my heart things will be ok because I am determined to do my

best and not lose him. He is very confused right now and I can't make

him feel something he won't. I just mainly worry he get too jealous of

baby and not care if he loses her. I grew up w/out a dad and its

horrible. As far as fenugreek, Stevie sent me a whole big list of all

kinds she takes. so I started those and so far so good. But I really

appreciate the words. Thank you!

It is hard to find time to pump, I know that first hand! Time can just slip

past you, especially when you have a hectic job. Every 3 hours will help,

but I wouldn't go any longer. Only you know how to make that work in your

job setting, but I would say to try to make that work. You are very

committed to bfdg and that is wonderful. You can do it!

My bad, ! I thought I read a month...

Your plan or every 3 hours might work better than skipping as much as you

are now. It's worth a shot, IMO.

When does your DH re-enlist? I remember that there are two times in a

military career that you can sell back leave. I sold back 28 days once,

and DH sold back 30 recently. If this is an option, maybe it could " pay

for " a few weekends at home to spend with your daughter. Just a thought. :)

  • 9 years later...

I just joined this group and it is actually the first group I have ever

joined!(online)

I am ready and really need to have peace with food and my eating

habits. I am totally new to intuitive eating but while searching for

the right path to follow this one makes sense to me. I am excited to

read what I have so far and am really looking forward to learning more

about intuitive eating-applying it and feeling the results.

I am unhappy with my body. It is very hard for me to type that. I am

now waking up to realize I have real issues with food and eating. I

think I am a binge eater... my weight has fluctuated my whole life. Not

a huge amount but a lot for someone who is 5'3 " . There have been times

in my life(usually when content) when I have eaten wisely and have

practiced unknowingly many of the intuitive eating principles. Other

times and majority of the time emotional eating and just the love and

comfort of food control my eating habits. When I feel fat I eat even

more.My mother was what I consider obsessed with weight when I was a

child. Hers and mine. I am probably 15 lbs overweight. I do not weigh

myself.

I am ready for a change. I like the idea of being happy with my body

not a number. For some reason the ideas behind intuitive eating really

strike a chord with me. It feels like a good fit. It feels like common

sense-- Not that I think it will be easy!!!! :)

Thank you for allowing me to be in your group and learn from and with

you!

Welcome and glad to have you join us here online too. Some

people have talked about face to face meetings, which would be

excellent and powerful too, but I love the 24/7-ness of online.

I suggest that you take some time to go back some of days worth of

posts and read through these. It will give you an idea of what goes on

here and may also give you some answers to questions you are bound to

have. Don't be shy about questions - they help you and us both. First

by building your understanding and second by stimulating our thoughts

and actions too.

Looking forward to reading more posts from you -

Best to you, Katcha

I just joined this group and it is actually the first group I have ever joined!(online) I am ready and really need to have peace with food and my eating habits. I am totally new to intuitive eating but while searching for the right path to follow this one makes sense to me. I am excited to read what I have so far and am really looking forward to learning more about intuitive eating-applying it and feeling the results. I am unhappy with my body. It is very hard for me to type that. I am now waking up to realize I have real issues with food and eating. I think I am a binge eater... my weight has fluctuated my whole life. Not a huge amount but a lot for someone who is 5'3". There have been times in my life(usually when content) when I have eaten wisely and have practiced unknowingly many of the intuitive eating principles. Other times and majority of the time emotional eating and just the love and

comfort of food control my eating habits. When I feel fat I eat even more.My mother was what I consider obsessed with weight when I was a child. Hers and mine. I am probably 15 lbs overweight. I do not weigh myself. I am ready for a change. I like the idea of being happy with my body not a number. For some reason the ideas behind intuitive eating really strike a chord with me. It feels like a good fit. It feels like common sense-- Not that I think it will be easy!!!! :)Thank you for allowing me to be in your group and learn from and with you!
