Guest guest
I was severely physically abused from as young as I can remember til age 20 when I'd saved enough to get my own place. I watched my Mom and my sibs be abused.I have had many problems directly related to the tensions PTSD, and some related to the physical abuse. I have spent most of my life waking up screaming for help - and the abuse stopped 40 years ago - I am 59 now. We were not safe even in sleep, and could be awakened by a beating from a dead sleep.I do believe that my pelvic floor issues had everything to do with tension.blueeberri@... wrote: So how many women on this board were verbally, physically or sexually abused? Would be interesting to find out.I personally came from a very abusive family. Verbal. And then when we were in high school physical. (hitting). My dad hit me a lot, called me names, swore at me. I was never sexually abused. I am sure this all has contributed to some of my nervousness. I don't think it causes VV, but I do believe stress plays a role in many illnesses. If a person is stressed out they are more apt to get sick, whatever the illness may be. See what's free at AOL.com. Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Yahoo! Guest guest
I do believe that my pelvic floor issues had everything to do with tension. Dusty, With all that you went through for so long, i don't see how it would be possible NOT have major residual issues with fear/tension/pain. What a terrible situation to have been in for so long. I see this link, in a much milder form, in my boyfriend. I am a very good masseuse, but can only work on him in a very, very limited and gentle way, because he is SO touchy. He'll complain if the pressure is more than extremely light -- and forget about any trigger point work: he yells and hits the roof. As a childhood he was teased/tortured mercilessly by his two older siblings, who even went so far as to throw him down the basement stairs. I have absolutely no doubt that his "uptightness" is completely tied to this childhood trauma, which went on for several years. This kind of hypervigilence can lead to serious tension -- and tension inevitably leads to physical (and emotional) pain, however it might manifest. . . . Guest guest
So how many women on this board were verbally, physically or sexually abused? I wasn't in any way, shape, or form. But, as Sandi mentioned, defining abuse in its subtler but still potent forms, can get tricky. While i was never verbally, physically, or sexual abused, i DID experience a serious emotional disconnect from my mother when i was very young that resulted in very little physical touch (above and beyond the necessary) or emotional "warmth" -- and i do believe that this is an underlying factor that contributes, at least in part, to my current physical symptoms. Guest guest
It sounds like you lived through Hell. I totally believe that it could cause your pelvic floor tension. I was very fortunate. I had the totally ideal childhood - like in Leave it to Beaver. I still ended up with this nightmare.Sandi Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Yahoo! Autos. Guest guest
Never abused, but any kind of stress does affect vv, but I think that is true of any illness, I mean you are even more likely to get a cold if you are stressed as it compromises your immune system, Anne -- > > > > > > So how many women on this board were verbally, physically or sexually > abused? > Would be interesting to find out. > I personally came from a very abusive family. Guest guest
Hi Anne, Me too. I had a great life up until this. Whenever I get stressed my pain gets worse...sometimes there is a day or two lag.
