The under brow bone color, which is the highlight, should be just a shade or so lighter. Your arch area, which is in the middle crease, should be a shade darker. Lips: Try a lip liner about the same shade as your arch color. Lip color should be the same texture as your clothes. Meaning, if your clothes are of a silky nature, then go shiny. If they are of a matte nature, then go with frosted. Cheek color: Your cheek color should at least be the same hue, depending on skin color, as the color of what you are wearing. If you are wearing two different colors, then find the one that flatters you most and bring that out. To achieve this, hold your cheek color up to the fabric. This should to tell you how light or dark you should apply it. Powder: Your cheek color should go on first before your final powder for a more natural ,not painted on look. ***If you lightly powder your lips with just a puff, your lip color will stay on longer. This acts like a sealer provided that you don’t keep working or pressing your lips together.*** Apply all of the other necessary things that are not mentioned here to achieve a perfect look for any occasion. Also, try to apply your makeup in the light that you are going to be seen in. This always works best. article by Pamela Conoly ============================================================================== Know Your Cholestrol: " Hardening of the arteries " is the common expression for a medical condition known as atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis involves the accumulation of fat in the walls of the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle. These areas are susceptible to changes such as the development of clots, small areas of hemorrhage and spasms, which eventually could lead to heart attacks. Because cholesterol collects in the arteries, all men should have their cholesterol level measured when they reach their 30s, according to C. Tissa Kappagoda, director of preventive cardiology at UC Medical Center. The number to keep in mind is 200 mg/dl (milligrams per deciliter). If yours is below that, you are in the " desirable " range, and can feel comfortable rechecking it every three to four years. Levels between 200 and 240 are considered " borderline-high " and warrant a closer look. For young men in this range - and for all men older than 50 - Kappagoda recommends a complete lipid panel, a breakdown of cholesterol into low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglyceride levels. In general, if HDL (also known as the " good cholesterol " ) is high, it is considered protective against high total cholesterol. A low HDL level (less than 35 mg/dl) raises the risk of heart disease and stroke, even if total cholesterol is in the desirable range. Those with high and borderline-high cholesterol levels should take steps to reduce them to less than 200, and have their levels checked every six months to a year. Kappagoda recommends decreasing overall fat in the diet, losing weight and increasing physical activity. " I like to look at these changes as a package for better health generally, rather than as isolated remedies to fix cholesterol, " he says. " There are so many benefits to following 'heart-healthy' guidelines, including lowering your risk for heart disease and cancer and looking and feeling better. " Although cholesterol-lowering medications are available, Kappagoda is reluctant to advise patients with borderline-high cholesterol to undergo lifelong treatment with them if no symptoms of heart disease are present. Besides being expensive, medications may have unforeseen side effects. " I'm always surprised how often just improving diet and exercise work to bring down cholesterol levels, " says Kappagoda. However, he stresses that people with high cholesterol must not merely pay lip service to heart-healthy recommendations, but truly " take them to heart. " ================ ================ ================ ================ Do you fall in the following Category?: Men • The husbands of women who work full-time may risk a reduction of up to 25 per cent in their chances of being in good health, according to a recent survey conducted by Ross Stolzenberg of the University of Chicago. This has been attributed to a lack of 'health nagging' by the woman (whose own health, incidentally, remained the same whether working or not), but other factors to blame include the woman's lack of time for organising social events with friends and family (New Scientist, September 9th 2000). • Research has found that regular jogging and other vigorous exercise helps to prolong life and wards off impotence in men. The Massachusetts Male Ageing Study concluded that men who did the equivalent of a two-mile brisk walk a day were three times less likely to become impotent (the London Times, September 8th 2000). • A recent study claims that short bursts of exercise can be just as beneficial to men at risk from heart disease as a more arduous and lengthy session, so long as the total amount of exercise is the same. The research, carried out at the Harvard School of Public Health and led by the epidemiologist, Sesso, indicated that physical activity need last no longer than 15 minutes to reduce the risk of heart disease (the London Times, August 22nd 2000). ================================================================== Women • Isoflavones - chemicals present in soya - may be toxic and could lead to breast cancer, brain damage in men and abnormalities in babies, according to senior scientists at the US Food and Drug Administration (Metro, August 14th 2000). • Sage is a natural remedy long known as effective in treating both hot flushes and night sweats due to its anhidrotic (reduces sweating) properties (the London Times, July 25th 2000). • A survey completed by Professor Brind, of the University of New York, indicates that having an abortion could increase the chance of developing breast cancer by as much as 30 per cent (the London Times, August 14th 2000). • Eating less and taking more exercise could reduce a woman's risk of developing breast cancer, according to research carried out by Grazyna Jasienska of Jagiellonian University in Cracow, and Inger Thune of Norway's Tromso University (the London Times, March 9th, 2001). • The rising age of mothers may go some way towards explaining the increase in diabetes, according to Edwin Gale and colleagues, at the University of Bristol. They found that a mother over 45 was more than three times as likely to have a child with diabetes as those under 20, and that for every five years in age, the chance of the mother's child developing diabetes increased by 25 per cent (the London Times, August 11th 2000). • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) may keep ageing womens' memory in good shape. Hampson at the University of Western Ontario tested the memories of 96 menopausal women and found those taking oestrogen performed significantly better on verbal and spatial tasks (New Scientist, January 6th 2001). • Although asthma isn't common in postmenopausal women, a new study documented in Time magazine reveals that those who take HRT increase their risk of developing the illness by 60 per cent (Time, November 6th 2000). • The female sex hormone oestrogen could prove beneficial in helping people with schizophrenia recover from psychotic episodes, according to a preliminary study by Jayaashri Kulkarni, a psychiatrist at the Dendenong Psychiatry Research Centre in Melbourne (New Scientist, March 3rd, 2001). • A study of women over 65 has found that even a little physical activity such as walking protects against loss of mental function. e Yaffe and her colleagues from the University of California discovered that a quarter of the least active women observed suffered cognitive decline (New Scientist, May 12th, 2001). • In a study of men and women with bladder cancer, Ross and colleagues at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, Los Angeles, discovered a threefold increase of risk among women who used permanent hair dyes regularly for 15 years or more; temporary or semi-permanent dyes were found to pose no risk (New Scientist, March 2001). • Research has revealed that where women usually sniff out mates with genes for immunity that differ from their own, thereby increasing their chances of healthy offspring, those on the contraceptive pill unknowingly select men whose genes for immunity are closest to their own. The study, by Claus Wedekind, a Swiss scientist from the Universty of Bern, indicates that the pill may interfere with a woman's sense of smell, and, consequently, her ability to select a suitable mate (New Scientist, February 10th, 2001).
