I cannot get her out of my mind, or her situation. What was going on between the dad and his own daughter? Surely more than this one instance will be surfacing soon. I'm a little too militant and emotional on the subject. From what I read, these women have their minds made up and more information will only make them close their minds more. IME, women who are that staunch about bottle-feeding have some real issues to deal with- and only those close to them have any ability to sway their opinions. Guest guest Posted May 28, 1999 Report Share Posted May 28, 1999 , She is coping at this point. She is back east with her dad and will be coming to the west coast in a couple weeks to be with mom. She is in counseling through rape crisis and department of social services. She is also finishing her finals at her request. Her older sister is taking much harder at this point. They are both coming here. The older sister is friends with the brother of the girl where she stayed the night so it is a hard situation all the way around. I would have to suspect that he has done this to others. DNA tests are pending and he has denied the whole thing. Thanks for asking. I have been supporting her mom a lot. The car seat analogy is free to glean... we might wanna stick it here for others to think about as well. In a nutshell, using a car seat is to breastfeeding as lap-holding is to formula feeding... but I had to spell it out for these people, then they told me it was just ridiculous since a car seat was the LAW! Was I really opinionated? I tried so hard to stay away from I FEEL or I THINK statements... who cares. There just isnt any evidence to back up what these guys say, and the board manager came right out on the Attack Bandwagon to say that she has read ALL of the research behind breastfeeding and wants to bottle feed. " I know this is good for my baby, but I'm not going to do it because I don't like the idea of it. " There has got to be lots of guilt buried there, not that they'd ever admit it. When you come along and point out facts as you did, defensiveness kicks in. Think of smokers. They know it's bad, they know they should quit- but don't want to try. When someone starts telling them the benefits of quitting- they hear " blah, blah blah blah blah. " I think a lot of women on that board have this mentality. AND I think the woman who currently bottlefeeds but regrets quitting b/feeding could have a lot more impact on their decisions that a confirmed breastfeeder. Which is why I didn't post. Today my friend decided to convert to cloth diapers after she saw my cute little dipes. All I could think was, I wish it was this easy to convince people to b/f. I went to K-Mart when I was pg with my first child and bought 6 dozen Birds Eye diapers, pins, pail, Borax... and he was cloth diapered for a few weeks... but the diapers didnt hold up, and by then I couldnt afford to buy that many again. I have never lived in a city with a diapering service. Too bad there arent more of those. Maybe I should think about a home business. What if the mother had no choice but to bottle feed her child????? I mean there are people out there like that and I for one was like that with my son, Brent. I did try him on the breast, but because of medical reasons it didn't work and he had lost more weight then normal. I am always in full support mode and forget to support myself. It has been rough. Last night didn't help. I just have to vent for a second. I put Zaid to sleep (took over an hour) and then finally got Kaija to sleep and was about to collaspe into bed. I went in my room and Zaid was sleeping half on my bed and half on his. He had pooped and it had run out of his diaper and EVERYWHERE. It took us about 20 minutes to get him all cleaned up, the bed cleaned up, remade and Zaid nursed back to sleep. What a nightmare. Hey, we had similar nights... s diaper overflowed... with pee... but I just bought a pillow top on my bed, and his butt was right in the middle of where my shoulders normally go while his head was in his bed.
