Well as far as the coffee cut it down slowly...maybe start making it half reg and half decaf for a couple of week and then start adding more decaf to it gradually...I need my caffeine but I limit to one in the am...other then that it's water all day.

That gym deals sounds GREAT!!! your lucky!!!!!

My only tip would be to print out the new updated foods list on this groups site and take it shopping with you and keep it on the fridge so it's easy to see the things you can have at easy reference and it also keeps your mind on it...!!!

Hello everyone my name is I am a 35 yr old mom of three 16,11 and 8 and married for almost 12 years. We live in upstate New York. I have been struggling with my weight since I was a teenager. I have been on many many diets to include Atkins, weight watchers, slim fast, all types of pills and nothing seems to work. I have been thinking for a while now that I need to get on the wagon and learn to eat right and to be healthy. As I am getting older health issues are creeping up that having extra weight is not good to have. I have access to a new indoor track and gym at our local high school it is only used by public at night but has everything in it and I can use it for 25$ a year. I have machines at home too that have been collecting dust. So it is time. I did some research and The South Beach Diet seems the way to go. I know I am a carb addict I have been watching and journaling what I eat and carbs carbs and more carbs and not the good ones either. I have set my mind to start this on Monday and I have been reading what ever I can on the diet because I have heard it has great success. I was going to join the south beach online but it is too expensive for me so I thought joining a group like this may help me too. I know that I am a coffee addict too I have to have my coffee during the day although I do drink water that and coffee and cranberry juice is about all I drink. I do use non dairy creamer and no sugar and I will buy decaf coffee this weekend but I have to have that. That is the only thing I think I would have problems with if I had to cut out totally. So any tips and ideas on how to get my phase one started I would love. This weekend is grocery shopping too so I will be getting the right foods for me. I plan on making SBD dinners for everyone in my house so are there any recipes out there for phase 1 or do I just make myself separate food till then?

Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats-the good ones - and enables you to live quite happily without the bad carbs and bad fats. You can do this. Just don't give up. :) Carol

Thank you Carol I am very excited about this and think this is something that I can live with because the foods you can eat are pretty good. The hardest thing with changing the way you eat is that good food is so costly.

Hello all.

My name is , and I am glad to be here.

I recently read the Intuitive Eating book, and like everyone here I'm

sure, it struck a chord with me. So many things I identified with.

Well, I was doing good going along fighting the food police, honoring

my hunger, and rejecting diet ideas but, then I lost my way and

started going back into my old habits. Trying to eat " good " and

having " bad " foods again. So I went on line looking for some help

ways that I can incorporate what I learned into daily habits and

reminders with out having to carry the book with me. And, I found

this group, so needless to say, I am excited!!

If you don't hear a lot from me, please know that it is not that I am

tuned out. In many groups I actually get the most out of listening,

or reading in this case. When I have something I feel needs to be

said I will, but mainly I like to hear everyone's stories, find how I

relate and get strength from there.

Thank you for having me.

Hi everyone-

I just joined this group, so here's a little bit about me. I'm a LIFE LONG dieter. I started my first when I was about 13 (I'm 38 now), and I've done them ALL. I've always struggled with weight but was pretty effective at keeping it down, for the most part. No matter what I weigh though, I've alwas had serious body image problems. I have two children, one is 4 and the other is 17 months. I was able to lose most of my 'baby weight' after the first with diet and exercise, but have not lost a pound since my second was born. I dieted for several months afterwards to no avail, and was (am) distraught by that. . . I have a hard time even celebrating my daughter's milestones because I'm ashamed and embarrassed that she's a year and a half old and I still look like this. Last summer (May) I got involved in a women's therapy group, more for body image issues than anything - I had decided that I didn't want to spend the second half of my life hating

myself, and nor did I want my daughters to grow up with the same issuses I've struggled with. The therapist recommended I see a nutritionist, who introduced me to IE. So I've been doing that since about June of last year. It makes so much sense to me and in some ways I've made some real progress in terms of starting to accept myself, get in tune with true hunger, etc. I haven't lost any weight though, and this still feels like a failure (how I know I haven't made a lot of progress - weight is still my biggest factor...) To clarify, I haven't weighed myself since I started with IE, but I know from the way clothes fit and the fact that the nutritionist has confirmed that my weight is not going anywhere (she does blind weighs). Due to financial concerns, I've had to stop seeing the nutritionist, at least for now. So I did some looking for online support groups, and found you all. I have a bunch of books and plan to keep doing everything I

can... But I continue to be very discouraged with my weight. I keep wondering why I just don't go back to weight watchers. . . or restrict . . . or something. So, I'm hoping that through this group I can keep motivated and remember that this really is the right way to live life, to be a role model for my daughters, and to learn to like myself.

OK, so that's me. It's nice to 'meet' you all..

I understand the urgent need to return to your pre-pregnancy size. But think. Have you really considered if that size is a natural size for you as a women or is it a natural size for you as a teenager?

Each woman and man has a natural size for themselves at their current point in life. We are not all meant to be thin models but we ARE all beautiful.

Hey Gracie,

I feel the same way I am at home from an injury which I had to have

surgery and do not know when I will be going back to work but I feel like I

should be eating when I am not even hungry so I try think about something else

or get up a walk outside just try to do something else.

Thanks for Listening,

Dena

book about compulsive eating, I identified with her.

> I work at home, where food is always present. What I've learned so far in less

than a week on IE is that it's tough--really tough--to do nothing except eat at

a meal. I'm so used to watching TV while I have lunch or reading something or

working a puzzle. I can already see that I'm learning something. I have time now

to notice how wonderful the food tastes.

until this week, I hadn't experienced a hunger pang in I don't know how long. I

guess it's going to take practice. Does anyone else have that problem?
