I like cashew butter since it's low in salicylates. I buy the nut butter but am starting to make some. Homemade is always best on this diet. I am not sure how tolerable macadamia is (never tried it!) > 2nd: Does anyone cook mangoes? I have a whole bunch and I know that > it is too early for raw fruit. Sometimes I throw in half pears and half mangos too. Cook a big pot, strain out the liquid, refridgerate everything till cool and puree just like any other fruit. I also do this with papayas. Good luck!! Guest guest
Hi Gwen, The purchased nut butters are fine as long as they have no added sugar or starches..... salt only, if anything. Congrats on the progress.... Patti, mom to Katera, SCD 13 months Formed BM!!! and 2 questions Hi, My son had been having some pretty severe diarrhea just before we started SCD about 2 1/2 weeks ago. We starting to see some improvements a few days into it and then today he had the most formed BM I've seen in a long time! I'm stunned!! And he is off of his colitis medication (azulfadine) right now b/c we ran out. Anyway,I'm excited to see what's going to happen next!!! I have 2 questions: Is it too early to start nut butter and what nut butter seems to be the best one to start with. I have some macadamia nut butter from Maranatha. The ingredients are: Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts. Can I use this? Also, do most of you make your own nut butter/flour or purchase it? 2nd: Does anyone cook mangoes? I have a whole bunch and I know that it is too early for raw fruit. I was wondering if I can make mango sauce like pearsauce. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Hi Kathy, The cashew butter is a great choice for later on (and for those who don't tolerate others) but it shouldn't be used by newbies. There is too much natural " starch " for those just starting - better tolerated after a while on the diet. Pecan butter is a great choice for newbies especially if you can't use almond butter (and a lot of the ASD kids react to it). If the pecan butter is a no go you might try the macademia butter. The Maranatha is okay. Sheila > > I have 2 questions: Is it too early to start nut butter and what nut > > butter seems to be the best one to start with. Guest guest
Hi Gwen, I don't use pecan butter. I have made my own pecan flour and almond butter. Maranatha makes legal pecan butter. Sheila > Hi Sheila, Where do you get pecan butter or do you make your own? > Thanks, Gwen
