Guest guest
This is a good thing! This means you are starting out with a good team who wants to give the diet a chance to really work. My daughter had a urinary infection when we started. We didn't find out until after she was in the hospital and the fasting started that she had one but the doctor said she would not have started while was fighting an infection either. She said you want to be good & healthy so you are giving the body a full fighting chance. If you're child is dealing with any mucus or anything like that from the cold then when they go to eat a meal full of fat they may throw it up. You don't want that. This was a good decision even though you wanted to get going. ne & in NJ ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: ketogenic To: <ketogenic > Subject: Strange luck Date: Sun, 1 Jun 2003 22:15:58 -0400 _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. Guest guest
I have to agree with ne Ania! It's hard enough going on the diet when the child is sick! Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I was told when I was starting the diet is when your child gets sick you concentrate on getting them better and that may bring them out of ketosis. I'm sorry you didn't get to start the diet Ania but it will come. I'm anxious to start ours but I have to wait ( Halina Strange luck > Date: Sun, 1 Jun 2003 22:15:58 -0400 > > _________________________________________________________________ > Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. Guest guest
Ania, You might just try introducing the cream to her in various forms now..... whipped, diluted for drinking, made into ice cream (sweeten with stevia), etc., to see how she tolerates it. Once you have a set date for admission again, about three weeks before that you can start cutting out all sugar and refined flour (actually, no harm in doing that now), and increasing fats. We were instructed to do this and Katera slipped into ketosis very easily by the end of the first day in the hospital. She tolerated it, and her first keto meals, very well. Be glad that you don't have any illness complicating things and stressing her system...... I know it's a disappointment when you were gearing up for this but it will all work out. Patti Strange luck I wanted to thank everyone for your replies, support and kind words. Just when we had everything ready to go to start the keto diet tomorrow, we got a call from the hospital and the nurse asked a few questions including how was doing. Well, came down with a cold this past Friday and I told the nurse that had a wet cough and a runny nose, but no fever and otherwise she seemed OK. Well, a little while later we got a call from her again saying that she spoke with our neurologist who decided that it was not a good idea to start the diet when was not feeling well and cancelled our admission for tomorrow. I have mixed feelings about this change in plans - on the one hand 's cough does not sound great and I am glad that she can recover without major changes in her diet, on the other we have been waiting to start this diet three months and now we will have to wait even longer. Hopefully they won't make us wait too long. I did finally find some real cream at a local healthfood store and have two liters sitting in our fridge ready for next week when we were supposed to come back home from the hospital, but now it will most likely expire by the time we need it again. Oh well... There is not much we can do but wait and let get better. Ania " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort! " List is for parent to parent support only.
