Hi Layci,

Just wanted to chime in!

The other posters were correct in their responses about trans vag US's.

They can be used to measure cervical length and and FAR FAR more accurate

than manual exams (as Diane unfortunately found out - thank heavens they

caught her situation in time). I have suspected incompetent cervix b/c I've

had three surgeries on my cervix (not MA related), so we placed a

preventative cerclage at 12 wks. I had trans-vag US's every three weeks

until I hit about 30 wks. My measurments were always btwn 3.1 and 3.8,

which I was always told was " looking wonderful " . My situation was weird in

that I have two separate cvervices that are fused together at kind of an

angle, so they always had a tough time measuring.

I hope that gives you the info you are looking for. As a side note,

something that helped me keep track of my numbers was this...

http://www.motherofallbooks.com/pdf/prenatal.pdf

This is a website that has a printable prenatal record you can take with

you to every visit and jot notes down on. I wrote down my cervical

measurements EVERY time. I found it really useful b/c the times I ended up

back in emergency situations I could say " Well last week it measured blah

blah blah " . I now have notes on EVERY single md, nurse, ultrasound &

emergency visit I've had since I began my pg - even if its just a word or

two its a very valuable record and helped me cope with the stress of a high

risk pg after a loss.

Take care,
