Guest guest
Amy, I just had my second photderm in the S.F. ofice. I agree it did hurt more especially around the nose. I experienced no swelling but was quite red in the cheeks and forehead. Ittakes a few days for everything to go back to(hopefully not) normal. I am going to stick it out and see what happens. The worst part is hoping I don't have car trouble on the wat home, so people don't wonder how I got such a strange sun burn. Keep up the group gang its a wonderful support. Thanks Tom in San Francisco

I would keep a daily log of swelling and blistering symptoms, and send it to the doc before your next tx. You could even take pictures of the affected areas. The doc might need to adjust the settings for your skin type and sensitivity, so feedback from you should enable them to make the next treatment less traumatic. Try to review your log with them at your next appointment. Meantime, I would use Ace reusable cold-gel compresses and aspirin (or similar) to help with the swelling. Sorry, hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I know how you feel! I'm really prone to swelling from my rosacea, and I've had some pretty good swelling after some of my photoderm treaments - just like you described and with those big undereye bags. NOT pretty, is it?! After 2 of my treatments it took quite a few days to subside completely. Like Jim said, describe exactly to them your side effects when you next go in and they'll adjust the settings appropriately. I hope it all clears up soon (don't worry it will!) and hang in there - you'll look great soon! I've never had a blister from it luckily. I got bruises on my second and fourth treatments, and super-sensitivity only after the first and second treatments. I don't know why I didn't swell after my last treatment. I did the same thing as before: use the Ace reusable gel cold compress, take advil, benadryl, EPO or flax oil, avoid salt and sleep with extra pillows so the fluid drains away from my cheeks/eyes. Maybe my skin is getting less sensitive now. Also, I have to agree with Beth in that the areas that got bruised have had the best rate of clearance from the red. So that's been my experience so far. I'll probably still need another 2 to 3 treatments, but I'd have to say that I've had about a 60 to 70 percent improvement overall. Wishing you success with your series of treatments; hang in there! I have a 2.5 hour drive back from my treatments. What I do is cover my face with tinted sunscreen immediately after the treatment is complete, before leaving the office. This not only hides my gnarly red face, but more importantly, it protects the post-PhotoDerm skin from the sun. Right after treatment you are most vulnerable to sun damage. I am anxiously awaiting some Zinco, but until then I just add some concealer to ordinary white sunscreen which my skin can tolerate - I use Biosun Faces SPF 25, which contains no oil and doesn't bother my face post-PhotoDerm. I tint it with L'oreal Hydra Perfecte Concealer, SPF 12. Then I can walk right into a crowded store without attracting so much as a glance. Guest guest
Hello Jim, Could you post the ingredients for the sunscreen. Darlene
Guest guest
Hello Darlene, The sunscreen name is BioSun Faces Oil Free Lotion. SPF 25. Active ingredients: Titanium Dioxide, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Oxybenzone, Octyl Salicylate, Homosalate. Inert ingredients are not listed but it also contains Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. Manufactured by Playtex Products. I found it at Walgreen drugs. Product is almost fragrance free (I can barely detect a faint odor), and is easier on my skin than any sunscreen I have used so far, although I am waiting for Zinco now.
