I believe its pannectomy or something like that .. either way whatever the

medical term is its the removal of the pannus or hanging fleshy tissue left

over from your weight loss in your tummy area. Its just the excess skin

removal.

Lyssa

Question

Hi,

Can someone please tell me what a panilectomy is? Thanks.

Tommy --

I don't know which case Keating referred to (doesn't matter -- the points

of his needing rebuttal are not related to any particular case), but the case I

like from California was Mendes v. California Youth Authority/ez v.

California Youth Authority. It was 3 or 4 years ago, and was settled out of

court. As I know from experience, state agencies don't settle such things

unless their attorneys, after research, conclude that the Constitutional issues

are VERY real. Here's the link:

http://www.aclu.org/community/calif-n/youth.html

It's a great case, and written up very well. Unfortunately, it can't be

used elsewhere, as it wasn't taken to trial. But some choice quotes from it

would be good in a rebuttal letter.

Regards,

Rita

Hi Lois!

First of all, congrats on the 99 lbs!! WOO HOO!!!

Yes, that sounds like an effect of dumping. That's exactly how it effects

me, unless I have a bit too much sugar, then I also get a rapid heartbeat.

I too MUST sleep, then I'm fine, but sorta feel a " hangover " effect

afterwards, depending on what I've eaten.

I've chose to do a BAD thing a couple times, and that was to eat something I

knew I'd have that same effect with, then go to bed for a GOOD nights

sleep...I know, it's the WORST thing to eat, then sleep, especially if

choosing a bad food.

The sugar free ice cream, does not mean it's sugar free. There is no ADDED

sugar, just the natural sugars from the ingredients. I buy the " Hood - no

sugar added " ice cream, and if I put it in a Dixie cup, I'm fine, otherwise,

I'll dump.

Hope this helps, and Happy Holidays!

Dawn

Question

Hi Everyone:

I am 7 months out and down 99 pounds. I have had absolutely no

trouble to speak of with any type of food (not eating sugars, fried,

etc.). I can even eat an apple with the skin on it.

However, twice I have had something happen to me and I am not sure if

it is mild dumping or what. The first time was last summer. I had

what was advertised as " sugar free " ice cream. I ate less than half,

but shortly afterwards, I became extremely tired (we are talking

genuine exhaustion here) and I had to go right home and go to sleep.

I did not vomit at all, but my tummy was not too happy for awhile.

The second time was just last Sunday. In a restaurant, I ordered

steak tips and they were served with barbecue sauce already on them.

I ate two or three (who counts?) and, again, shortly after, an

overwhelming fatigue hit me. Again I went home and went to sleep for

an hour or so and again not vomiting but generally unhappy tummy

(although not realy nausea).

Other than those two times, I have had NO problems (Lyssa, I know

what you mean about sometimes doubting I every had the procedure done

in the first place) with anything.

Does this sound at all familiar to anyone else. Am I flirting with

full blown dumping here? I have a really good stomach and it rarely

gets upset; maybe that's why my symptoms are so mild. It's just that

awful fatigue.

Sorry for the long post, but if anyone else has experienced anything

similar, I would love to know. Thanks for any and all replies.

Lois

I think I must be experiencing this kind of dumping too....I tested out a few

bites of pumkin cheesecake on Xmas...and got very lightheaded. And today for

lunch, I was again tired and lightheaded all of a sudden...all I can think of

was that it was a little ketchup?

Silly as it seems, I am glad to have some kind of reaction to sugar. I seem

to be tolerating most other foods well...with the noteable exception of pasta

(not just ravioli, all kinds, ugh! LOL)

Hello!

Pumpkin has sugar, and cheesecake has TONS! I tried cheesecake last x-mas,

dumped...this x-mas tried a tiny bite, and was fine, although I'm much

further out too.

Ketchup also has sugar...basically everything we eat has some form,

somewhere unfortunately. What did you have for lunch? One thing you can

try as an alternate to ketchup for a while is mild salsa...you can add this

as a " dip " , or on baked potatoes, a couple crackers etc....ever try Sesame

Tahini aka: Hummus? Also a good dipping food, and it has protein!

Just my $.02

Thanks for the input. Good to know I'm not imagining this stuff. Who would have though barbecue sauce could be so troublesome? Happy New Year and see you next week at the meeting.

Hi Sally,

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

You'll be on the other side before you know it. My surgery was

11/21/00, saw Dr. Thayer briefly before surgery, he ask if I was all

set. The consent form was brought to me by the O.R nurse while I was in

the pre surgery area. Don't worry it all goes so fast. My surgery was

set for 8am, I had to be at the hospital by 6:30am, I check in and was

brought up stairs to the surgical floor by 7:15am and changed into the

wonderful large jonny, then prep, Iv, they check your o2 levels, temp

taken, heprin given, I was even shaved. Then at 8am taken in to surgery

the rest is history. Don't worry about your cloths or coat it's tag and

placed into a locker, then later brought to your room.

Hope this helps.... GOOD LUCK

Hi Maura,

That is good. I just need him for a sec, as he said to

remind him that he is excising a lesion on my face. I will tell

everyone else too, in case I don't end up seeing me. He

knows me with questions (as do all of you - nervous Nellie

here). giggle at myself (it's HER again).

Thanks. Can't come soon enough. Sally

Louise,

Always thinking here, Louise. Lately, my brain won't turn

off. It is always thinking about this surgery. Wait until I have the

surgery, and I have different questions. People will run for

shelter far from their computers.

Take care Louise. We have been in contact with one another,

but please know how sorry I am that your date fell through due to

an infection. Another date will be yours. Don't give up if you

really want this surgery. It will work yet.

Sally

Re: question

Sallyyour questions have been great..... I haven't had to ask them, because you have asked them first!! HA HA just kidding of course... With much love.. Louise

Sally I have no recollection of when I signed p/wrk I imagine it was in the morning I don't think Dr. Thayer had me sign anything. I do remember him popping in to see me before I had the surgery and it was more casual like "are you ready?" any questions? that sort of thing

Good luck! You've asked some awesome questions!

it to the surgical nurse, etc... I did not see my med student prior to

  • 2 weeks later...

Sally,

As I'm sure you know, you had surgery 5 days after I did. I think the loss of appetite is normal for a lot of us. I am 3 weeks out today and still have to force myself to eat and drink. The only other problem I am having is I am so, so cold. I talked with Sally this a.m. and she said this is also normal for some of us and that I needed to just try anything I can to get warm and work with it. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they did about it?

Also about exercise. I haven't yet felt up to it. Anybody else have trouble getting started. I hardly leave my bed. I mostly just watch TV and read some. I don't feel depressed but I just can't seem to get moving. I am really worried that this will affect my weight loss and hanging skin. Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry for rambling,

Kim from Templeton
