HI Sue....

Hon my pain was ONLY in the vulvar tissue... I did not have any type of pelvic or radiating pain, it was something I could lightly touch with my finger tip and have severe pain, even air blowing on me or water would hurt, let alone urine or anything else (esp. sex) going over that raw excoriated tissue.

Believe me I knew in 'my' case it was the V tissue itself that needed rebuilt. I could visibly see those scores of tiny cuts or fissures with a high powered magnifying glass & flashlight (a trick in itself, LOL) but without one? Believe me easily missed. My own doctor thought I was crazy till I made him pull over his colposcope, he saw them too, then apologized. *sigh*

In that piece about acupuncture you might have noticed something "I" thought made an excellent point about the physiology of two kinds of pain, one was pain that originates in the skin and travels in the somatic nerves, and pain traveling in the internal organs, travels in the visceral nerves, and.... Pelvic Pain is visceral. (autonomic).

Viseral pain from my understanding is felt deep down and within, often with symptoms of some aching or dragging feeling as well, and it can expand to many areas including the genitals. Somatic is more the actual surface (even of organs or the skin) and is usually localized.

As an example: Sort of like if you had a cut on your arm (somatic), versus a deep tender bruise, (visceral) you certainly know the differences, or at least I did. And why for me PT or the anti-seizure or antidepressant meds would not have done 'me' a bit of good, I needed tissue healing.

Just as a side note *grin* it's similiar with fat thinking of those two terms, visceral & somatic.

Women, tend to store more subcutaneous fat that accumulates outside the muscle wall (more somatic or surface of it) while men usually develop fat stores around the organs or what is called visceral fat. And visceral fat is considered to be more risky. People who store fat primarily in their bellies of the visceral type have higher blood insulin and sugar levels (and so more prone to diabetes,) which raises levels of the bad LDL cholesterol and lowers levels of the good HDL cholesterol making them more prone to heart attacks as well.

Sorry, got off subject a little bit there with that thought that just hit me.. :)

Anyway hon 'my' answer was using the two hormone creams E & T (the Estradiol & the Testosterone) basically food & nourishment and what the skin thrives on, to totally rebuild and restore the tissue to give it back it's elasticity, tone, etc., especially the stretchability. Basically to get the skin good and healthy again. It took me a good full six months to do that so it certainly wasn't a quick fix and can be frustrating but it worked.

Just a quick thought too as I read that acupunture article nne just sent... And not that I don't think it can't help (or that TCM might too) but to 'me' as I read that, my own first gut reaction was, ''OMG this is a poor woman with too high a Testosterone level and not enough estrogen'' and her hormones (in my opinion) were totally out of balance.

The reason why?

Where they said: "She slept well until mid cycle when she was plagued by violent dreams and night sweats" I know that violent dreams are often a sign of too much T..... and the hot sweats connect with too low an estrogen level, plus midmonth is also when the progesterone (P) kicks in and estrogen lowers. And she slept well the first 2 weeks when estrogen is more prevalent. To me? she needed a hormone test done and a physician who's aware of how our hormones work.. *sigh*...

Just my thoughts on it all hon and what worked for 'me'. HugsDee ;)

bikini wax

Hi Dee,I will keep everyone posted about my case. On another note, what methods and drugs got you to be pain free? Are you still taking any of them? I stopped cymbalta this week, and some of the pain returned. What drugs do work other than cymbalta and neurontin? Do you know if Lyrica has been successful as a newer drug? I live in New Orleans and am having trouble finding someone to treat me. A pain mangemnt specialist said he could do a nerve block injecting it into my spine., Has any of lthe women gotten success from one of these blocks? I've heard they only last 1 1/2 hours. Thanks, Dee. Sue
