Liz,

Having worked in a NICU I can say there are risks to GD besides having a

large baby but with that in mind I also refused to take the test. If you

have GD you spill sugar in your urine. Any good practioner should be

checking that every time you see her. If I would have been spilling sugar

I would have taken a modified version of the test. I don't think it should

be a routine test as the subsequent interventions from false positives are

very dangerous as well. Drinking a huge amount of refined sugar on an

empty stomach is not good for anyone especially not a pregnant woman. So I

have to agree with both of you. :D

I have to disagree. It causes the baby to grow very fast sometimes leading

to abnormal brain growth. Also,it puts the baby at risk for having a severe

blood sugar problem at birth and having to be put into NICU to control

it.There are a lot of women who have no symptoms at all and have GD.
