Guest guest
Hi , You have to go with your gut felling as far as school is concerned, Ben has missed many days, i also let him sleep in in the mornings the schools don't like it but thats tough, our kids health comes first, i myself missed a lot of time of school due to my parents ill health and didn't sit my final exams as my father was having open heart surgery, i left school with no qualifications. In todays society their is opertunity for higher education, i have studied hard at night school passed 5 gcse's and 2 a levels and am currently doing a distance learning course for a diploma in epilepsy at university. So you see education can wait.
Guest guest
Hi , I can understand your protective instincts at work here as i have also been there. However i do think it is better for our kids to be at school if they are up to it. Leah, now 12yrs has been having frequent absence sz's since age 3yrs and we have never kept her from any activity as long as her safety was insured. She has always attended school and i am sure this has helped her to grow up to a well adjusted child who does not see herself as different from others. best wishes, Jeanette > >I was just wondering if some of the other children on here miss alot >of school due to seizures or seizure activity? Guest guest
Mike has missed a few 1/2 days due to seizures/tiredness. Most of it has to do with the meds and weans. He also has a fluctuating start time in the am and back from lunch. There is a 1/2 hr window for both times incase he is more sleepy/grouchy and I need to take it more slowly getting him ready. He is in Kindergarten 1/2 time, meaning he goes every other day for the full day. I also do a 1/2 time homeschooling program (not following any specific curriculum, just re-teaching what the school is working on for that week) It isnt easy, but it works for us. There are times when Mike just cant focus on stuff being done at school -like work sheets etc, so then we work on them at home too. Guest guest
, I homeschool Katera (age 6 & 1/2)..... partly because I had already been doing it for years with my older three, but also because the staff at our local inclusion preschool said they wouldn't be able to give Katera her emergency meds if she needed them .... and they weren't using common sense in keeping various snack foods out of her reach once she started the diet. I had to stay with her at school every day. The fluorescent lights there also bothered her a lot..... no way to get away from them at school. I finally decided that we'd homeschool her at least for the first few years. For some reason, I felt more intimidated and nervous about meeting her learning needs than I did about her brothers'.... but we're doing fine. I frankly can't imagine dealing with school now.... with all we've been through in the past couple of years (her other medical issues, etc.). She would have missed SO many days of school that it would have been really difficult. This way, we can just take advantage of the really good days and fit in a lot of learning activities when she's feeling great...... and the not so good days aren't such an interruption. I like the flexibility. Social time is not as high a priority since she is so delayed..... I know it's much more important for kids that are more advanced...... we do organized activities with other kids in small groups several days a week but we keep it short and simple (preschool-ish level). I know this is just one way to do it..... and not for everyone. We live on a really low income so I can stay home with her full time. Patti Absent from school? I was just wondering if some of the other children on here miss alot of school due to seizures or seizure activity? Am I overeacting when I keep home from school when she is having abscence or just really tired in the fear that a grand might follow? She sure misses alot of school because of this. Sometimes I feel like I am overreacting and afraid to send her to school. " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort! " List is for parent to parent support only.
