Guest guest
I guess they are figuring that they will do the surgery now while he's open instead of later in case reflux symptoms appear. Like I said, I'm biased, I would do it in a heart beat so it's done and you don't have to worry about it because it's worked so well for us. Yes, Kennedy is still tube fed, she eats some pudding/yogurt/ice cream when the mood strikes her but that's about it. She still gets nasopharyngeal reflux when she eats orally (food comes out of her nose because of her incoordinate swallow). She's cleared to eat, she'll do it when she makes the decision to. Maybe JD isn't showing signs of reflux yet, but perhaps as feeds increase or amounts of boluses increase, the symptoms will show. They can also silently reflux, which means without looking like it, the food can be coming up and going into the lungs, which can be problematic in the future. This is my opinion - I " m sure you'll get more on the topic though! Good luck!
