The Nissen had been successful for us; out of all K's surgery, it was the most

" quality-of-life-changing " surgery. She was a different child when her reflux

came under control. That being said, there is a 30% failure rate for nissen

fundoplications; it almost seems like a lottery at times here on the listserv.

Will I get one that sticks the first time?, etc. Kennedy got hers at 6 months

of age; she is now eight and it is still intact and working fine as far as we

know (she doesn't reflux at all). We are big proponents of the nissen because

it worked so well for Kennedy.

The Nissen also worked well for Dylan. It failed once - after a year -

severe retching in response to formula intolerance was the culprit. The

only time in his life when he cried a lot - pain - was during those 9 months

when it was no longer working. Once we redid it, he was back to his happy

self and it has lasted 8 years.

I agree with , there are those it does not hold on and there are those

who are glad they had the g-tube, but not the Nissen. It really is a

personal decision and what you feel is best for your child.
