Guest guest
Hi everyone, Its great to be in on this group. Ive just spent hours going through the past archives and have really enjoyed the time everyone has spent in telling us about personal experiences and successes. I particularly want to thank DR nase and DR sy, who have helped so many people in the past. And thanks to everyone else who has posted. Id really hope that you both (and everyone else in the group) could help me fix this problem skin of mine that has been emotionally destroying me for years. Heres my story (ill try not to be too boring) ... Im 21 yo. My skin started to become really bad in year 11/12 at high school, My face got really oily, and developed hundreds of blackheads on my face, nose, you name it. My complexion was horrible, my skin was so rough and oily and acne prone that i used lots of products that never seemed to help. I went on Doxycycline, Minocycline...and cremes etc, but none seemed to work that well. About 2 years ago, i notice that some blood vesels were starting to show through on my nose and my cheeks were a little red. It started to annoy me, even tho it wasnt really bad, but it was noticable. Because my skin was still breaking out, i went on a 6 month course of accutane and it has seemed to work quite well, but i think i made one HUGE mistake, i didnt moisturise enough, i tried to stay out of the sun but im not sure if i put enough suncreen on. Anyway, im now going on to 4 months of being off the accutane, and my skin is just horrible. It is so red and irritated, that i cant stand to look in the mirror. Your going to shout at me, but i also had two microdermabrasion treatments done about 1 month ago when i shouldnt have, and i think this made my sensitive skin even worse (i regret that everyday). Somedays i think i look alright, but then other days, i cant believe how bad my face looks. I have a lot of scars on my face from past breakouts but i think they look heaps worse because of the redness and irratation. I still have the blood vessels showing on the bridge of my noise and some slightly coming through on the cheeks. My whole face has a red unhealthy rough appearence. When i go outside or even when im inside, my face burns a little bit and gets itchy. Im trying to use good products but they just dont seem to help me. Ive been using the none comogenic, oil free, avoiding alcohol stuff lately, but im not sure its even helping. This has absolutely ruined my life and i need to get this fixed or i wont be able to face the world anymore. DR Nase, id really love to have you help me turn things around, because ive seen your results and im really impressed. I cant wait to get your book. Dr Sy, ive looked at your products and they seem great, and most people here love them. Id love to try them but im just at a stage where im so frustrated that nothing I try seems to work. I spent over $200 on Roth products, cleanser, toner, sunscreen etc but they dont seem to fix this red ugly irrated face that i have. Money is no concern, in a sense, because if i could find something that works, i wouldnt hesitate to buy it. Its just so frustrating!!! Im beginning to wonder if my skin is going to be like this forever, and i really dont think i could handle it, if it was. When i have a shower, or bath, my face goes really red and it looks like i have a rash all over my face, occasionally during the day i might get a small red rash on an area of my face, even tho nothing has bitten me or touched it. My face is still dry from the accutane 4 months ago. My nose has been quite red even since starting the accutane to, its terrible. Sorry ive written so much, but im just depressed and at my wits end with this thing. I guess im asking for the support of this group in fixing this problem up for me. I know everyone around here is so friendly and nice, so it would mean the world to me if you could help me beat this thing. DR nase and Dr Sy, could you help me, i know your both busy, but if you could, id really appreciate the time. Nice talking and ill speak to you all in the next day or so... Many regards.. Guest guest
Ross, it sounds like you have really been through the mill with this rosacea--it is so very frustrating I know!! If you e-mail Dr. Sy personally maybe she could help you with what products to try first. the Zinco is really great. We are all anxiously awaiting Dr. Nase's book and any help that can give us. Just hang in there Ross--have you considered e-mailing Dr. Bitter and asking him if photoderm would help? Just a thought or two from me-- GLORIA
Guest guest
I am so sorry to hear your story and can only tell you what has helped me I know it is hard to act calm when your skin is freaking out but you must remain calm and have faith that you can id the problems and develop treatments chances are you will have to figure alot of this out yourself and you must calm your skin down so you can make an assesment of how to treat the damage that has been done those are two seperate problems and one MUST be done before the other The first thing is you need to stop doing every possible thing that could be irritating your skin and if you cant do that at least do the following NO ALCOHOL* DRINK WATER NO SUGER* (there are tons of ways to satisfy a sweettooth ) NO refined WHEAT products (if i eat a bagel i will break out but all multi grain is ok ) No COFFEE* EAT ONLY WHOLE <PURE < NATURAL foods also if hot showers are irritating you then dont take them if your boss irritates it then find another job dont do anything that you suspect will irritate your skin do not use ANY acne medication s on you skin ( do not use benzyl peroxide ) no products with lanolin .mineral oil or waxes (some waxes might be ok but dont even risk it now ) oil is ok but not man made petroleum oils Drink more water tyour symptoms sound like mine when i wasnt drinking water ) use rosacea products on your skin ZINC OXIDE works well use it in a natural formukla try zinco (dr sy ) go to rainbow resears on my skin (baby oh baby candela diaper cream w/zinc ,borage and grapeseed oil at www.rainbowresearch.com) after your skin is calmed and not broken out then you can determine what if any treatment you want I believe there is no way around this If this sounds hard to do then that might be an indication that I have listed some of the root causes If you can afford it then take time off and treat yourself first your skin is trying to tell you something and you will have to listen all my love to you ,marion theferris@... wrote: > Hi everyone, > > Its great to be in on this group. Guest guest
Not long ago, I really needed some help too. I have had rosacea for 20 years (I'm 40). I didn't do anything until last March. I live in Scotland, but was on holiday in South Carolina. My face was as red and blotchy as usual, in fact more so due to the sun. My skin was hot, very sensitive and covered with blemishes. The photos of that holiday are awful - heart-breaking. Someone kind said to me " friend, you have acne rosacea " , and told me how to calm it down. This is what I did: use doxytertacyclin twice a day (=antibiotic) wash hair/face every morning with Neutrogena t-gel therapeutic shampoo (cool water) put on noritate cream (works great) often, not always, put on zinco after that (feels lovely and cool) drink water often keep off sugar, alcohol and CHOCOLATE (very hard!) avoid stress After nearly three months, my face looks like I have lost weight, because the swelling has gone down. No more spots/acne - face is really smooth. No more red hot sensitivity. No more flaking skin. My face is pink, but not red. Sometimes my face is normal - for the first time in 20 years - if I have avoided my triggers. I have to say that my confidence has gone up. Many people have commented to me how much better I look. I am a school teacher, as well as a preacher, so it does help not to feel like my face is as hot as the core of the sun! I did try the cea LTDIII for a spell, but I smelt like the sulphurous ejection of a volcano, and it stung. I may go back to it when I come off the antibiotics. I obviously hope I can at least maintain my progress. All the best to my fellow rosacenas. Nigel
Guest guest
Hi. I'm also 21 and I have had cea since I was 16. I have a huge problem dealing with it and I drive the people nuts around me because of it. My cea was under control pretty well until this last year. I don't know if it's stress or just a change in my skin. It seems like my skin has never been worse than it is now, so in desperation I have been trying everything even acne medications. This really only exasperates the problem. For the past few weeks I have been trying to completely leave my skin alone. I also have taken some of the advice from this group and tried zinc oxide cream. It seems like a lot of people with acne like bumps have been helped by using zinc oxide. I've been avoiding anything that seems to cause my face to flush and become irritated. Sometimes keeping a diary and recording what you do can help you to target what triggers your skin to breakout. My skin seems like it has only gotten better since I stopped trying every possible solution and irritating it. It sounds like you have really sensitive skin so try to be gentle with your skin. In my case I think I just didn't believe trying tons of products and irritating my skin was the problem. Now I've realized that it really helps to be patient. Hopefully you will get your condition under control, try not to lose faith that your skin can improve. Becky
Guest guest
Ross, Try to calm your skin first...not make all the redness and bumps go...first just pamper it. For me using the zia fresh cleansing gel to wash with does this...also, you need a good moisturizer...perhaps Dr. Sy's vita oil mixed with her zinco. Try just using one or two products until your skin is more calm. Then you will be able to step out and experiment with other things. Also, check up on what you are thinking....tell yourself that you will get better at least 3 times per day...in fact go in the mirror and say it to yourself...this is temporary and I will get better. I know that may sound strange but I did this many times and for many months and it helped me calm my fears and find hope in a situation that appears hopeless. Guest guest
Ross, I totally empathize. All of us, to varying degrees, have " been there. " When I'm so irritated that soap stings to wash my face with, all I can do is use plain (not junked up with a bunch of chemicals) aloe vera gel. If you don't have the aloe plant--or don't wish to cut it up--'s aloe vera gel (found in health food stores) is good; 's aloe gel is good--can be found easier than the " 's " ; Reviva makes an aloe vera gel based " Willard Water Soothing Gel " --can be mail ordered or found in some health food stores. I " wash " with it; towel it off; put more on! all day long, if possible. Using a bit of cider vinegar in a bowl of cool water also seems to soothe and heal (some folks in this group are sensitive to vinegar!); using a zinc oxide ointment is healing--they're really WHITE unless you try the Sy " Zinc-o " One to try at night--yep, it's the white stuff--is Reviva " Oily Skin Night Cream " --again, found in health food stores. May you find some relief soon, whatever you decide to try! Carol theferris@... wrote: > > Hi everyone, > > Its great to be in on this group.
