Questions, yogurt and nuts

I just got a yogurt machine and am ready to begin to make some

yogurt. In BTVC it says you can use commercial yogurt as the

starter. My question is - can I use goat yogurt from White Egret

Farms as my starter in my goat yogurt instead of having to order

some? Where do I find a step by step recipe for making the goat

yogurt? I need to know if and how I boil the goat milk? How much

starter from yogurt to use if I don't order the cultures? Etc.

Also, does anyone know where I can order different nut butters.

I've been using a lot of peanut butter with my son and I'm afraid he

is starting to get overload on it since that is all he wants to

eat. I'm looking for hazelnut or pecan butter. I would make it

myself, but I can't seem to get it to make into butter. If I need

to add oil - how much do I add? If someone makes their own

nutbutters and has a good recipe I would be interested. I have a

Vitamix and a Food Processor. Any help would be appreciated.

Debbie,

The directions for making goat yogurt are on pecanbread.com.

http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.html

The White Egret Farms contains bacteria strains that are not

allowed on SCD. So, it is not an acceptable starter. The

acceptable commercial starters are all from cow's milk. So, that

could be a problem if you have a cow dairy allergy.

If it's not a problem, then you can check Elaine's website for

details on which particular brands of commercial cow's yogurt

can be used for a starter.

Click on the " beginner " link.

If you want goat yogurt with no cow dairy, then you will need to

order the starter from Custom Probiotics. There will soon be

starter available from another company as well.

Many grocery stores carry legal brands. One is Maranatha, which

makes many varieties of nut butters.

I made my own pecan butter I lightly roasted the pecans and just

blended for a few minutes with the metal blade in my food

processor. I didn't have to add oil to the pecans but when I made

almond butter I added a little oil until it looked right.
