Guest guest
Hello, ladies. I am now 29 weeks and had my OB appt. a few days ago. He still hasn't done another US (not since 20 weeks) and Iam anxious to see this little tiger...she seems not to have ANY room to move, since I always feel movement in the exact same place...like she is stuck there. poor thing. His response was " the human body is a wonderful thing... you would go into labor if the baby ran out of room or wasn't growing properly " .....well, isn't there such a thing as IUGR? (Intra uterine growth retardation?) He drives me mad with his " everything is wonderful and normal with your pregnancy " routine. Of course, maybe he is right, but he acts like I have no BASIS for concern about anything even though I am UD and pregnant in the " other " side this time. ANyway, the heartbeat SOUNDED good...just wish I could see her. He is not seeing me again until 32 weeks and may do an US at 34 weeks. Also, I had my glucose test...it came back 162 (should be under 135 to pass). They are sending blood off to be tested because they thought it sounded high for me and machine might be broken. If not, has anyone had GD? I am not sure how this affects the baby? Thanks for listening! Guest guest
Hi , 29 weeks already, wow, how the time flies!! As you know, I also have UD and all my three kids had " suspected " IUGR (intra-uterine growth restriction), although they were never given an official diagnosis. They were all around 6 1/2 lbs at full term, which is on the small side, but they were perfectly proportional and caught up very quickly once on breastmilk. As I recall, the first signs that their growth was slowing down was around 30 weeks + and I don't think it would be unreasonable for you to ask for a US to check growth. I always measured " small for dates " , but I am also tall and thin. My OB sent me for US about every 2 weeks starting around 30 weeks, based on my external belly measurements. I recall being quite worried about potential IUGR and it ended up not being a big deal. As for GD, I never had that issue, but I do have a UD " friend " who did have it and was told that it's REALLY important to religiously control it through diet and meds when you have UD because if not checked properly, it can lead to large babies, among other things, which you don't want in a smaller-than-normal uterus. Hopefully, it's just a testing glitch for you and won't become an issue. I am sure your OB can give you detailed info if you need it. Take care and keep us posted. You're heading for the home stretch!! Lia UD, mom of
Guest guest
Hi I agree with Lia in that you are totally justified to ask for an US at or around 30 weeks. The stretch between 20 and 34 weeks is a long time especially since this baby is in the other side. I know my doc will be doing one for me every 4 weeks after the 20 week US, as I am in the same situation as you. How big was you first baby when he or she was born? My girls were both small 6# 3 oz and 6# 11 oz. I realy didn't understand the IUGR bit. I know we were watching for it...I just assumed I made small babies...that God knew what he was doing. Talk with your doctor and let him know of your concerns. Good Luck! UD #3 edd 4-14-04 > Hello, ladies. I am now 29 weeks and had my OB appt. a few days > ago. Guest guest
- Sounds like you are doing great! I would think that you are justified in requesting a US to check to appropriate growth...remind him that this is effectively a first pregnancy and that IUGR is something he needs to be on the lookout for. And, if that doesn't work, throw a fit. :-) Don't hesitate to remind this guy that this is your body, your baby and your money. If you want a U/S, he should give you one. Lia is right, GD, Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, left untreated can cause BIG babies - after Peyton, I know that you can handle a hefty baby, but its nothing to mess with. My mother and sister were 14 & 11 pounds - GM was diagnosed, but was in denial and did not take care of herself. Hopefully it was just a fluke test - but if not, just follow doc orders and everything will be fine. I have had 2 friends w/ GD and while it was a pain, they just monitored their sugar and carb intakes and did great. Let us know how the second test comes out. fused UD

What said :-) I'm a huge supporter of pitching fits when medically necessary ... you are the only person on this whole planet who can stand up for that baby. I'd simply say, " Look, a calm mommy is a healthy mommy. I'll be calm if YOU order these USs. " And if that doesn't work, you just show them what NOT-Calm looks like :-)
Guest guest
I second everything that said!!! Don't take no for an answer. Better to be safe. I can't believe how lightly some of these doctors take things. Womens intuition is a powerful thing and they need to listen to us!!!!!!!!! Saying a prayer for you and your baby that everything is fine, Rose
