First - an intro. My name is and my son Jake (just turned 4) was diagnosed with autism last March. We went to Pfeiffer At the end of May (of this year)- and the test results came back in the middle of July. He is extremely high copper (167 copper serum). Our biomedical journey began in June of 2002 when I started him on HOuston's enzymes. Did this before anything else. First appt with a DAN doctor was in Sept. Started Dr. Megson's protocol (went absolutely nowhere!) and GFCF in October of 2002 (test showed possible celiac - never had him scoped though). Things didn't really start to improve until I started SCD in Jan. of this year. I also dropped all of the standard DAN garden variety supps but kept the enzymes and probiotics of course, oh and the epsom salt baths. Plus , my son was still getting cod liver oil - on the days he wouldn't refuse it (can't force things in them, you know). After 4 months - no more messy, putrefied fermenty smelling stools! Then we go to Pfeiffer and find out about the copper in him. So - my question is - did anyone's kid develop a really mean rash after the intitial zinc loading? We started him on the MT primer - but had to stop after my son broke out in a really bad rash - the nurse said he was probably reacting to the corn in the Vit c and the soy in the vit e. So she told me to go ahead and zinc load him - starting at 20mg and then after 2 wks move up to 40mg and then start the treatment program. Because I didn't call my order into the pharmacy on time, there was going to be a 2 wk delay before I got the treatment program nutrients so the nurse told me I could go ahead and move him up to 50 mg of zinc. I did this and after day 4 he developed and rash. I stopped the zinc a week ago and the rash has gotten worse. And today he has had the wrost diarrhea - which he has not had in 4 months! Has anyone had this experience as well? Does the zinc loading trigger a yeast flare ? I'm hoping that all of this is maybe a good sign. I have read that intense itching is a temporary side effect - why didn't Pfeiffer tell me that? Hmmmm Thanks in advance for any help -
