Hives and Stress - Bonnie

Urticaria is the medical name for Hives.

Thanks for the information, Jill.

I had tests for Lupus, liver, thyroid, etc. Nothing showed up! I was on

doxepin for IBS and it also helped the hives but I gained 90 lbs between

that med and when I was on Paxil (after ending Doxepin). The most effective

treatment for me is Zantac. When the hives are acting up - actually I don't

get " hives " per se, but the itching/burning is what happens and if I don't

take my Zantac and/or add an antihistamine like Benedryl (to be able to

sleep at night), I will get actual small hives.

When it was really really bad, I had hives, welts, and HUGE areas that were

raised and itching like crazy! I first noticed them when I wake up at night

and my hands would be itching soooo bad that I wanted to tear off the skin!

It went from the hands to my whole body over several months. Even in my

scalp but never on my face. Added to that I had an allergic reaction of 500

mg of erythromicyn (sp?) at the same time. One allergist suggested it was my

cats - which it wasn't, but we got rid of them any way. (One of the hardest

things I had to do!) The hives continued so we knew it wasn't the cats :(

So, I live with them and when they are acting up really bad I know I am

fighting an infection....
