That's were I think we differ I do not think they are needed at all. If your

going to trear your just giving it a good start but cutting yourself. The

best way I can explain it is if you try to rip a sheet it's very hard to do

but if you cut it a little bit then you can rip the entire thing in a second.

Some idea with our bodies. I just feel like It is an unnessary proceduer and

just because a Dr THINKS it's nessary doesn't make it so.

But hey I could be totally wrong here :) Just my little opinion.

Don't feel stupid :) When your period is not regular it's near imposable to

know that kind of thing. Whens your Dr. appoimenet??

I agree...it isn't " NECESSARY " . It makes the DR's job easier mostly. If the

baby is coming down through the birth canal, it will certainly be able to fit

the rest of the way. I had an epi. with my first and did not with my second.

I did tear a little with my second baby, but I believe it was because I had

already had an episiotomy. That's my opinion anyway! :)

I agree with this part of your post however.....

I don't agree here. Prior to Philip being delivered I had been pushing for

two hours. They decided to use forceps to help deliver him. It was then

noticed that Philip was experiencing terminal Bradycardia and was not doing

well. He needed to be delivered IMMEDIATELY. *That* is when the cut was made.

It was *not* a matter of the doctor just not wanting to wait and see. It WAS

necessary. When Philip was delivered he was blue, totally limp and was not

breathing. Now if you think that there was time to go ahead and just try to

deliver him on my own with no help (cuts made) then I suppose that nothing I

say will change your mind. The bottom line here is that it WAS necessary for

*us*. I don't agree with them being done when not needed. I hope that I won't

have to have one again but it's certainly not worth jeopardizing my child's

life.

Btw, I realize that just because a doctor says something doesn't make it

true. However, in this case, it was.

From all that I have read, the medical community is " torn " (forgive the pun)

about natural vs. produced episiotomies. It just depends upon the dr. you

have and what their experience and philosophy is.
