Guest guest
Yikes!! I must be doing it wrong too. I am using the stanford mealplanner. I just have the forms from hopkins and the veggie list. It says GROUP A veggies-use twice the amount. I was wondering if since the mealplanner has the actual veggies listed instead of group a veggie or group b veggie are we supposed to double it. Patti says no. OOPS Big boo boo luckily no seizures yet.
Guest guest
Whoa....what meal planner are you talking about? The one you order from Hopkins (keto info management system) or the Stanford one or something else? I've always come up w/ my own meals, and done it the way asks about...so if I create a meal w/ 30g zucchini, for instance, I use 60. Am I doing this wrong????? I use the one from Hopkins (info mgmt system) Yikes, big panic attack here!!! Barb Swoyer, Jake's mom, 6+ years on the diet and better not have screwed up all this time!!!!! Diet questions ie. cooking w/oils and group a veg > > > Hey all, > I have a question. I was just looking through my Hopkins info from way back > and I rembmer that if you eat a A veggie, you get twice the amount. So, if I > calculate the asparagus in the mealplanner and it says he gets 27 g. then I > give him 54?? Is that correct?? He is venturing into the group A veggies and > I didn't want to screw up. Guest guest
Well, I CAN " T have been doing it wrong for 6 years, can I? If I do a meal like zucchini/mushrooms, for example (an A/B), then I will get around 20+ of each. I use the correct amount of mushrooms, and double the zucchini. I think - HOPE - my program is meant to work that way. Otherwise my doubled amount, if already in there...would be about = to the group B amount. Hmmm Re: group a veg > Yikes!! Guest guest
I have never used the Hopkins mealplanner..... but the Stanford one has exact values for each food.... each vegetable. If you're using the mealplanner, you usually pay no attention to " A " or " B " exchanges. The mealplanner program calculates exactly the number of grams you give of that particular food based on the values that were programmed into it. The exchange system is intended for those who are depending on a few meals that have been calculated for them by dieticians (or hand calculated by themselves) in order to allow some variety. The only exception to this would be that the mealplanner allows you to plan a meal with just " Group B Vegetable " plugged in....... in which case, you can refer to the exchange charts and chose whichever group B you want and use that number of grams....... or chose a group A and double it. I'm just assuming the Hopkins planner would work in a similar way to the Stanford one..... I could be wrong. Patti Re: group a veg Whoa....what meal planner are you talking about? Guest guest
Gee..... I really hate to think I'm causing you all to go into a panic here. Honestly, I got those forms and charts with the exchanges listed, too....... but my understanding, based on what our dietician told me, is that if I'm planning my own meals with the computer program, I don't bother with exchanges and basically ignore those charts. The mealplanner tells you exactly how much to use. Though, once in a while it came in handy to just be aware of that " exchange " method.......if I had a meal planned out that was with zucchini, for example, and I didn't happen to have any available..... I could substitute half the amount of carrots instead of taking the time to sit down at the computer and replan the entire meal. It's not nearly as exact, of course, but you can make do in a pinch. You'll notice, using the mealplanner, that the very same meal with green beans....... then replanned with carrots, comes out very different protein-wise, even though they are both group B's. Anyway, sorry to have anyone freaking out.... I hope what I've written makes sense. Patti Re: group a veg Yikes!! I must be doing it wrong too. I am using the stanford mealplanner. Guest guest
This is how I interpret the list Using the meal planner, I use the amount of grams listed, but if in your meal planner you need to exchange a veggie for another one after the meal is calculated( if one day you have no carrots in the house and the meal is calculated with carrots, you can substitute double the amount of celery or tomatoes for the carrots) otherwise I go by the amt in the planner It is strictly an exchange list The exchange list for fruits needs to be calculated as 15% is 2/3 the amount of a 10% fruit Sandi
Guest guest
YES This is exactly how I plan the meals I use Hopkins meal planner, but in a pinch if my daughter decides to want different veggies or fruits , than what is calculated in, I use the exchange list I do not rely on this method because the exact calculations differ Sandi
Guest guest
Works the same way Calculate the meal, but as in the Keto book an exchange list is available in a pinch Sandi
