Guest guest
Hello All! Well, it's taken me a while to update you all, but here I am...finally! I have missed so much on this list I am sure. Well, I need to give a short version of our birth story and fill in the gaps later as I think our little guy is waking up as I type. March 10, my whole family went out for dinner (Claim Jumper for those of you who are familiar). I thought I was having some mild contractions, but I had been feeling that way for several days prior to that too. I pretty much ignored those " pangs " and we had a great meal. We went to bed shortly after our meal was over and enjoyed a fairly quiet nights sleep...until about 5 am when I woke up to go to the bathroom and felt some cramping. Once I realized that I had about three of these " cramps " about 4 mins apart, I awoke dh, . He suggested that I walk around to see if they went away as they had prior to this. Nope! These were here to stay. The thing that is so cool about this day (March 11) is that it is our oldest son's birthday! Well, after listening to some hypno birthing relaxation exercises, I wanted a shower. In the shower, my contractions were coming closer and were getting hard to deal with. I didn't think I was going to be able to shave my legs...tragic!!! I was also getting a bit out of control. I told dh that I didn't think I could make it without drugs as I was feeling these contractions coming faster and harder. I felt a bit worried to say the least. He reassured me that I would be fine. I suddenly felt that we had to get to the hospital and quick. We jumped in our van and off we went. Luckily it is only about a 8 minute drive for us. We arrived to the L & D and when they checked me I was at 9 cm and complete! I was so happy to hear this I could have cried. Well, our little..or not so little Ty was born about 2 hours later at 9:10 am weighing 9 lbs 10 oz! NO DRUGS! Yes, I think the hypno birthing helped and I was and still am so glad to reach my goal of a drug free birth experience. What a high!!! On the down side, Ty had hyper bilirubin and we were in the NICU for 4 1/2 days. It really stunk there in many ways, but I had supportive nurses which made all the difference. Another down side is that my milk production is still low and it's bumming me out. I have been taking Fennugreek and nursing him every two hours. He needs supplemented (I am using bm from a friend's sil who has donated to milk banks and is now giving it to me for vairous reasons). I use a syringe at the breast, but hope we can eventually build up my supply enough to go solo! That's it for now. I hope I can sift through all of my mail and read other birth stories. I have to do a lot of deleting since I didn't have a chance to go no mail. Well, glad to be sort of back. - Jake 6 yob, Clay 2 yob, Ty 9 days old Proud Daddy
Guest guest
Congratulations !!! So glad everything went well with your L & D. Can't wait to see a pic of Ty! I had to laugh at the shower part, does everyone jump into the shower when they realize they are having real contractions? That's always been the first thing I've done! Congrats again> Joan
Guest guest
Oh - Just last night I was wondering about you and how you were doing, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! Your birth experience sounds wonderful Wow, what a big baby, you must be so proud! Having had 2 dd's that spent some time in the ICU, I can certainly understand how that feels, but I'm glad it all worked out- S.
