Guest guest
I am not sure if this will help you but our experiences are similar. I had no trouble nursing my first .. he latched well and we nursed successfully for about 19 months when he lost interest. With my second, I noticed too that my breasts never seemed to feel as full as they had with my first. I didn't leak as much either. She seemed to be growing leaps and bounds. Finally at about 2 months I asked my pediatrician why my breasts didn't feel quite so full and perhaps I wasn't making enough milk. She said that due to the fact that she was growing nicely, that she was probably a more efficient nurser than my first and was able to drain the breast better. I thought about it and figured that she was probably right! Now, DD (darling daughter) is almost 10 months old and 21 lbs. The only difference is that I didn't notice a difference in wet diapers .. she seemed to be having plenty. If supply is a problem, there are many many women who can help you through that as well!!!! Welcome to the list .. my name is . I am happily married to Tom and we have 4 year old and 10 month old Mae. We live in Michigan. Glad you're here! <3 B

Guest guest
hi. i'm so happy i found this list. i hope nobody minds, but i'm going to jump right in, i need some advice. i'm stephanie, my kids are jake who is 2 1/2 and derek who is 11 weeks old. i breastfead jake until he was 1 1/2, pumping at work from 11 weeks until 1 year. i didn't supplement with formula and felt i was extremely lucky with my supply and how it lasted. this time though, i'm having a slightly different experience, and i don't understand it. i was hoping that maybe one of you has had a similar experience and can help me through it. derek took to nursing quite easily and became an efficient nurser within weeks. he can effectively empty a breast in 6-8 minutes. i seem to be finding recently, (maybe from him not nursing long enough on each side) that i'm not filling up as much (i don't feel as full) and his output is reduced diaper wise too. am i losing my milk? i haven't gone back to work yet, because i'm currently looking for a job, but expect to be returning within the next few weeks. i don't feel confident that i will be able to effectively pump enough to satisfy him. has anybody else gone through this, and what can i do? personally, i don't believe in supplementing and do not want to add formula. is it just a question of how long he is nursing? please help thanks, and sorry for the long windedness. stephanie
Guest guest
melissa, thanks. your experience seems similar, and derek is growing nicely. the diapers worry me though. i'm keeping a close eye on it. oh yeah, i guess i should've said it in the first message... happily married to barry *sheepish grin* Re: new member intro and question > From: Nitome@... > > I am not sure if this will help you but our experiences are similar. Guest guest
, Welcome to the list and congratulations on your baby. Your breasts not feeling full doesn't necessarily mean anything. It often happens around 6-10 weeks that breast fullness is decreased. What do you mean by decreased diaper output? How many wet and poopy diapers is he having? Is he getting bottles and/or pacifiers? My dd never nursed for more than 6 minutes on a side her whole nursing career. If you are truly having a supply problem there are some herbs that can help to increase supply. You could try pumping immediately after he nurses each time. This can help to increase your supply by adding more stimulation. Pumping after he nurses will make your body think you are nursing another baby. At first you won't seem to get much milk but your body will catch up. Glad to have you here. Guest guest
- My name is and I'm a SAHM to 3 kids. 7, 5, and Katelyn 22 mo., whom I'm still nursing. There's a few things you can do that would help, it does sound like you should try to boost your supply. Check out the Breastfeeding.com, and Lactivist.com. Both are fantastic breastfeeding resources (even for women who've nursed before), in the Lactivist site she has a section where she deals with pumping, and supply problems. You may want to try the herb Fenugreek, I'm not sure in what form it's sold, but it's supposed to help. Also, there's a Mother's Milk Tea that works well, I've been told. You can email Wendi, the moderator of the Lactivist site with specific questions, she a tremendous help. S.

Guest guest
hi wendy, thanks for your thoughts and advice. in answer to your questions: by decreased diaper output i meant wetness. he only poops every 2 to 3 days and i haven't seen that change. he gets no regular bottles, breastmilk or otherwise. i'll bring along a bottle of pumped milk if i need to be out somewhere i can't feed him, but that doesn't happen very often. he does have a pacifier, but only uses it sparingly. (i don't think he has nipple confusion.) when i return to work he'll have to drink from a bottle during the day, and i plan on pumping milk during the day to provide his meals. what kind of herbs? are they safe? i will try pumping after i feed him, but, how long of a pumping session should i start with,? would 10 minutes be adequate? thanks again, stephanie RE: new member intro and question , Welcome to the list and congratulations on your baby. Guest guest
, I would look into food allergies. He may be allergic to something that you are eating and thus the infrequent pooping. This could also make him less interested in the breast. Do you eat a lot of dairy or soy? Its good that he doesn't seem nipple confused, it can really be a struggle with some babies. As for pumping I would start by doing 10 minutes after each feeding working up to 20 minutes after each feeding. If you pump like this for 10 days it is said to double your supply. Herbs to use: Fenugreek, Blessed Thistle, Fennel, Hops, Brewer's Yeast and there is also a tincture called More Milk by Motherlove and Lactuca Virosa which is a homepathic remedy. Fenugreek is the most used and seems to have the best results but you do end up smelling like maple from it. Start with 2 capsules three times per day and adjust as necessary, don't take more than 12 capsules per day. Guest guest
wendy, hi. thanks for the advice. i have tried fenugreek, and four capusules later, my body has been kickstarted into high gear. how long does it last? i've never heard that infrequent pooping is a sign of allergy. my ped says it shows a more developed intestinal system "do we poop after every meal" was the answer to my question when i asked. my older son did poop each time he ate, so i was very concerned when derek wasn't doing the same. are you telling me i do have cause to worry? also, since you seem quite knowledgeable, derek's spit up has gotten thicker and more frequent just recently. is this a sign of something as well? thanks, stephanie RE: new member intro and question , Welcome to the list and congratulations on your baby.
