Guest guest
Wow sorry you got such negative feedback. I have always been an easy flusher or blusher but nothing like the rosacea flushing I got in early 97. I think mine was brought out by using alpha hydroxy acids with a mixture of stress due to a move cross country. I seem to have it under control 90% of the time due to the zinco, oil and hemp soap I use. Hope this helps. Noreen
Guest guest
Sorry you received the negative feedback, too. I don't think the rudeness is at all called for, ever in a support group. I believe my rosacea can be attributed nearly 100% to heredity. My Irish/German descent, with very fair skin that blushes easily, fair hair and eyes. My skin has always been ultra-sensitive and I believe I exacerbated my tendency toward rosacea by using tanning beds during high school. I think this weakened my blood vessels as I would always come out of my tanning appointments with a brown body, but a very red face. I stopped tanning when I was about 19 years old, continued to have great skin until I turned 23. It was all downhill from there. I am a very " well " person. I don't have any stomach problems, or anything more than the usual cold. I've had strep throat twice in my life, once when I was about 10 years old and once this spring. I took the 10-day course of antibiotics and was good as new. I think that maybe some of us just have damaged and/or sensitive blood vessels, especially in the face. It's great that the Photoderm may be the key for some of us who are red-faced. I know if I could just rid myself of that symptom, I'd be thrilled. When I have a bad flushing incident, I know I will be blessed with a case of the pustules on my cheeks, jawline and/or bridge of the nose. I had a hair appointment yesterday and the chemicals used to highlight my hair caused my cheeks to flush right away. Now I have about 10 bumps scattered across my face and it's like I can feel heat radiating off of my cheeks. If Photoderm eliminates the flushing, I really don't think I'd break out anymore either. Guest guest
Dear mkfisher2, You are NOT stupid! Even Dr. Nase said that there are a variety of reasons to explain why people wind up having cea. In my case, sun damage and heredity are to blame. If you read through the posts, you will see that members of our group give different explanations on " when IT started " . One gal was fine until after a facial peel. Another used an alpha hydroxy product and ....whammo! Others' cea was set off by starting a certain medication. If you said your cea started after a couple bouts of strep throat and the flu, I BELIEVE YOU!!! A case in point: I also have psoriasis. The onset of psoriasis often follows a strep infection, especially a type called " guttate psoriasis " (little raindrop spots all over your body). In fact, one treatment for this after the initial presentation of the disease is to be given sulpha drugs to stimulate your immune system to regulate itself. Folks, the jury is still out on exactly what causes cea. The medical field to date has not been able to come up with any one answer, just possible theories. We do, however, have a number of treatments to deal with the disease (PhotoDerm being the most exciting at this point in time). I believe as time goes on, we will get closer and closer to finding out what causes cea. Look at cancer, if you don't believe me. Years ago it was a death sentence. Today most kids with childhood leukemia survive to become adults. Recently, scientists have discovered a substance that prevents cancerous tumors from generating their own blood vessels that they use to nourish themselves. No ability to generate their own blood vessels? The cancer starves and dies. This new science may also have promise for those of us with cea. Why do we grow " extra " blood vessels? How do we inhibit that growth? Questions, questions... I know this is a long post, but I wanted to hammer some sense into those negative lunkheads out there. Good luck! Janie K. Guest guest
Wow--I sure am sorry you got such negative feedback! There sure is no reason or excuse for that - this is a support group! And I sure don't think your ideas are stupid! The medical profession does not know the cause of rosacea and we are here trying to find some enlightenment--so how could anyone discount a cause when medicine doesn't even know? Speaking from personal experience and seeing what others have posted, I think it is a combination of genetics and I think a weakened immune system is as good an explanation as any to act as a trigger. Stress played a big role in making my own 10 year rosacea disease much worse! I think stress does that to many illnesses. Also, many of us have had, or currently have, an autoimmune disease. I like the explanation of my psychiatrist. He said anytime you have stress/illness in your life, your body will do one of two things. Some people's immune system becomes weakened and others have highly reactive immune systems (where your body will start reacting to innocent/innocuous things as the enemy). I would think a strep infection could certainly be a trigger for an illness that we are genetically predisposed to. Anyone that would privately post an insult is a COWARD and shouldn't be in a support group! I'm sure the vast majority of people on this website are decent human beings. All best, Patty
Guest guest
I'm sorry that you got those bad e-mails on this subject too! Personally, I am very glad that you brought that subject up because I've had quite a few bouts with step throat throughtout my life and of course took the antibiotics because I didn't want it to progress to scarlet fever and heart damage. Who knows, helping to stave off heart damage on one hand with the antibiotics and then on the other hand having those antibiotics cause rosacea to come up is certainly plausible. Maybe it's the action of the antibiotics doing the work of the immune system that throws the immune system out of whack. I had my first bout of strep when I was about 4, so if that's the case my immune system has been out of whack for a long time. I read that the propensity to contract strep is genetic. That's why if it's going around, some people get it while others don't. Take care! Matija > Wow--I sure am sorry you got such negative feedback! Guest guest
Wow.... I too after reading what mkfisher2 received, was left feeling amazed and speechless. Especially after what this group just went through dealing with the fallout from the webtv person. MKFISHER2... Don't give up on this group, it is for the most part comprised of some very caring and wonderful folks. I find the Strep Throat connection very interesting, in my early 30's, I suddenly became prone to getting Strep. Over a period of just under 18 months, I contracted Strep about 8 times. Lots of anti- biotics involved. Then boom, it stops as abruptly as it started and has never returned. It also amazes me to read the posts and see just how many of us can relate a history of experiencing the same associated conditions. Migraines, chronic digestive disorders (acid re-flux, etc), various allergies, various skin disorders (Seb. Derm, Psoriasis, etc ), Shingles, Thyroid disorders, Depression and S-T-R-E-S-S. Since joining the group a month ago, I've been keeping a journal on the associated ailments folks have been reporting. On the list above, I can answer " yes " to having experienced most of them, or knowing of a family member having one of the conditions. My cea made it's appearance about 2 years ago, after being extremely stressed out (seems to be one of the most common denominators reported on the group) continously for almost 4 years, starting with a very painful break up of a 14 yr marriage, followed by the death of my Father, 4 bouts of Corporate downsizings, all the while making the adjustment of living by myself again. Based on what I've read on the group, I have formed my own conclusions that my cea and the other disorders are opportunistic illnesses taking advantage of a weakened immune system brought on by chronic stress and anxiety. As such, I'm taking some serious step to manage the stress. So not matter how trivial someone may think of the information shared here, it's all important in the big picture of helping, and perhaps some Physician reading all of it will one day track down a cure, by " connecting the dots " . I'll get off my soap box now... Conrad > When I posted my message on how I believed I contracted rosacea, I > hoped to generate ideas how rosacea occurs. Guest guest
yes I do believe that rosacea is an oppurtunistic disorder similiar to how a weakened plant will get attacked by bugs but the heathier plants will not and what I mean by that is when my skin is irritataed almost anything can cause it to break out once it has broken out it can take months to get it to calm down wheras when it is calm and resilient I can get away with alot (not alcohol or chocolate or lanolin ) I am certain that I gave myself rosacea by drinking coffee and alcohol to excess (drinking no water) in my twenties when I lived in an extremely hot enviroment and i would get what I thought was prickly heat and what i now know leads to a flairup I have never had strep throat or any other illness except bronchitis when I was in highschool a full decade before my rosacea appeared I am 3 dayus into zinc oxide and the results are truly amazing I am so happy for this group as it has given me back my face !!! so thankyou everybody I hope that each of you finds a treatment I urge anyone who has not tried zinc for bumps to at least give it a try I was nervous about it so i just tried it on my chest and could tell right away it was ok nothging had ever felt so good on my skin goodluck to you all Conrad Aquino wrote: > Wow.... I also believe that all the causes have one thing in common, and that is an imbalance in our skin and/or body chemistry.
