Guest guest
Most of us caretakers just muddle through each day doing what we do, not thinking of it, and most of it goes un noticed to the world around us - they were very much in the public eye and yes, I agree, people in hollywood don't stick around very long, even when things are good, let alone bad..... There were days and times when Mike was sick, that if it wasn't for , I admit, I would have walked........I wanted to run as far away from things sometimes as I could get. It had nothing to do with loving him, I just felt the weight of it all, the uncertain future were too much for me at times....but then, I'd shake myself off, and some little thing (like him wearing a dress and vacuuming to shock us when we got home) would happen and all the reasons I was there, standing beside him, fighting for his health and his life and our lives would become crystal clear. There is not a person on the face of this earth that can make me laugh like that man can. I thank God I did not leave, because as he got to the end of his illness and we both put walls up as though we were preparing for the worst, I was very close to doing it - I look back on that and feel very selfish and weak and thankful I was never able to do it. We started on a journey together 16 years ago and we continue on. I think we are all heroes in our day to day lives in our struggles and our committment to those we love. The only difference is that we aren't standing in front of the entire world doing it, only in front of our little worlds. I don't think she wanted to be hailed as a hero, the media gave her that title. We all need hero's, sometimes all we have to do is look in the mirror or across the room. A pat on the back to all of us I think!!!!!
