Guest guest
Probabably SAM-e. Do a google on it and you'll see it's a natural supplement used for depression among other things . Guest guest
It's SAM-e I think... it's one of those herb/vitamin sort of supplements. I've seen it in the drug stores and health food stores, but it's not listed on my herb bar chart and it's not in Drake and Drake, sorry. It's also not listed in my Stedman's Alternative Medicine Words, either.. no surprise there. Maybe on Google or Rxlist? Sorry I can't help more. Jan jantranscribes@... " Typing is my life. Other meds include pegylated interferon, ribavirin, Neupogen, Procrit, Nexium, atenolol, Singulair, Lasix, amantadine, milk thistle, ginseng, multivitamin, vitamin E, and selenium. The drug in question is right after ginseng in the list. Any ideas? Thanks! Pattie
Guest guest
*nod nod* I got this from AAMT. (They mail out terms every so often to members.) SAMe, SAM-e *** Nutritional supplement consisting of S-adenosylmethionine; used for depression, arthritis, and some liver disorders. Guest guest
I hope they give you better " terms " than they give the rest of us! Believe it or not, I started getting nostalgic and thought about joining them again last week. When I went to the web site to do so, though, I discovered that they have raised the fee AGAIN, and now it's over $200. Maybe this is a good thing for them because it keeps the riff-raff out. I have influence of a sort over a number of students each year. When I mention to my students that it would be nice for them to join a professional organization for any number of reasons, I feel constrained to tell them what the dues are to AAMT once they stop being students, and most first *gasp* then inquire if there are any other professional associations they could join. Wouldn't you think AAMT would want to recruit new members and want instructors on their side? IDU. . . *sigh* At 10:57 AM 12/18/2002 -0600, §Rennie§ wrote: >I got this from AAMT. Guest guest
Over $200??? That's absolutely outrageous!!! I think it's long past time somebody investigated them for mismanagement of funds. I certainly hope their members are privvy to an accounting of where all that money is going and if they aren't, they darn well should be. Obviously they don't realize they are cutting off their noses to spite their faces as far as gaining new members. Something is most definitely wrong with this picture. I'm sticking with AMTAG, thank you very much. Jan jantranscribes@... " Typing is my life. " " Whoever signs the paycheck makes the rules. Guest guest
Rennie did you get their mail which referred us to our salary averages? I will try to copy and paste it for everyone to see. This allows for collection of salary data that is available at www.bls.gov. This data is quite extensive with geographical (state and local) representation. To locate these statistics, follow these instructions: Go to www.bls.gov on the Internet. On the left-hand side of the page, under Occupations, click Wages by Area and Occupation. Next, click on For Over 700 Occupations. Click on Healthcare Support Occupations (31-0000). Scroll down to “Medical Transcriptionist” (31-9094). You can click on this number for a more detailed description of the MT profession. Also, from the Wages by Area and Occupation page, you can access your state’s salary estimates. Under State Wage Data, click on By State. Next, click on your respective state. The federal government is expected to update this information in 2003. ? ================================================================ At 10:57 AM 12/18/2002 -0600, §Rennie§ wrote: >*nod nod* > >I got this from AAMT. Guest guest
Aliceanne, thanks for the link. It's been about a year since I visited the BLS site and it's changed a bit. Did y'all notice that 31-0000 Healthcare Support Occupations is where medical transcription is located, right in there with pharmacy assistants and nursing assistants? Wonder why not the 29-0000 Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations category? Considering the amount of training in terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, ethics, and other related skills that is required of a person preparing for an MT career, it would be classified a technical occupation.
