Hey! Me too with the candle - except mine is Pine. And the bird feeders have

to be filled outside so I can glance out and watch them. And, right now, SOFT

holiday music playing on the satelite Holiday Music Channel in the living

room. Gotta have sox on - can't stand cold feet - and, also right now, since

they are available, candy canes to suck on.....

And now...I'm set!!

I have a feeling all MTs are high maintenance. Just a guess! *G*

I don't like any sound at all when I transcribe. I like absolute silence. I

even have my phone ringer turned off (but I glance at caller ID). I guess one

weird thing about me is that I have to be positioned just so-so in my chair. My

butt, I mean. It has to be centered on the chair. It's big too so I can't

really tell by looking down, but if I feel the side of my chair on my right or

left thigh, I have to stop transcribing and re-position. LOL!

The aromatherapy sounds nice though. Good idea. :)

Silence is golden!

I work in-house at a hospital (medical records department), so silence is

clearly not an option. During the day, phones are ringing, people are in

and out of the department, and the clerks are a happy bunch who pretty much

laugh continually throughout the day, except for when they're eating. LOL

Oh yeah, they're renovating the transcription office, so right now me and my

two co-workers are set up to transcribe in the department breakroom!! I

like having the little fridge nearby but that's it. We have no door. We are

right next to the restroom. If me and one of my co-workers back up at the

same time, we would collide and probably be sent to the ER!!! Right now,

chaos is the friendliest term that I can think of that applies. Our office

is just about done. Yesterday they stained our desk spaces, and the whole

department was loopy!!

Regarding bare feet/shoes on or off, being in the hospital one would think

the shoes would stay on just as a courtesy to those around you. HAHAHAHA

We've had people come in and try to do this job barefoot and sock-footed and

couldn't hack it. The three of us that have hung on so far all wear our

shoes. lol If I were home, it might be a different story though! =8^P~

Re: Bare Feet? And candles, and ....

That is too funny with the birdfeeder. I was going to give my 2 cents on this

before, but trying to work super fast today, so keeping quiet. I'll take my

cigarette break now and do this.

Just last week I bought myself a bird feeder. Hung it right outside my window.

I have others in the trees, but my husband can see them from his desk, not me.

So, I bought another and it's hanging from the gutter. I thought it might take

few days for them to find it--within 10 minutes they were here. Now every

morning they start off eating. Sometimes they scoot away, like if i reach for

the mouse. Now, I have one that sits on window and looks in, right at me. Love

those birds.

Maybe i'll send Rennie picture to put on her site if she wants.

Egads, ! The noise would drive me crazy. I am so glad I work at home.

Even when I *did* work on-site (used to be an accountant, 'member?), I could

never do my best work when there was any kind of noise around me. I also don't

like bright lights (what most would consider well lit). I keep my blinds and

shades pulled here with only a lamp or two on. My last job (accounting), I kept

the overhead fluorescent lights turned off and had a lamp on my desk. There

were windows behind me, so that let in light also. My boss and coworkers

thought I was a very weird individual. *G*

BTW, do you ever plan on working at home?

I worked in-house for quite some time and never gave a thought to the " shoe "

issue; just worked with them on. Now that I am at home I can't imagine wearing

them! I do wear slippers or socks when it's cold, though. I turn the

thermostat down to 65 and the space heater on after everyone else leaves in the

morning, so bare feet are out. Brrrrr. My kids head straight to the

thermostat when they get home because I usually forget to turn it back up.

The candle and music ideas are great; thx for sharing. After working in a noisy

office (there was a transcription zone sign outside the office, but nobody

heeded it) the quiet at home was actually really hard to adapt to. Anybody else

talk to themselves just a little?

When I worked in-house the noise used to drive me crazy. Our " broom closet "

office was located right next to the copy machine for medical records, and many

times employees would gather around the copier for a coffee-klatch type

discussion. I begged our supervisor to send us home so we wouldn't have to put

up with all that. When they finally sent us home to work, guess who was the

first to go? :) My supervisor said it was because I had the most seniority, but

I also think it was just to shut me up :) When we first came home to work, I

would have the radio or the TV on, but it got to the point where I couldn't have

anything on.. Silence is golden for me and I get more lines when there's

silence. The only exception to that rule I've made was when 9/11 happened, I

had the TV on all day for a couple of days. Also, when they had the memorial

service at the site when they were finished cleaning it up, I had the TV on for

that too.

I, too, have a window to look out of.. it's across the room from me, but I can

see out (it's at the front of the house) to the street. My husband teases me

that I have become Ms. Kravitz (from the old Bewitched TV program,

remember?)because I can watch the neighbors. One woman who lives across the

street from me likes the fact that I can keep an eye on her house since they had

their house broken into about a year ago.

As far as shoes go, right now I'm wearing a pair of Dr. Scholl's clogs because I

just walked to the corner to get the mail, but usually in the winter I'm in

socks and/or slippers (my feet are almost always cold), and in the summer I'm

usually in sandals, flip flops, or bare feet . Like most of you, I can't feel

the pedal if I'm wearing shoes with thick soles.

I love to burn candles while I'm working. I'm a real Yankee candle fan,

although at Christmas I also like the Renuzit candles. Like someone else

mentioned, I, too, am very picky about making sure I sit exactly in the center

of my chair. I have my foot pedal blocked in so it won't move, and if I'm not

lined up with it exactly right, I get cramps in the back of my right leg up near

my .. uh.. buttock. I haven't quite figured out why it hurts right there. Very

strange.

Oh well... enough of that. It's nice to know we all have our little foibles eh?

My favorite is the Glade plug-in for Christmas " Gingerbread. " I got it last

Only ones I had ever seen were on Rennie's website. I'm going to have to put

I'll do it, when i go on my personal computer. I actually have pix of me
