Guest guest
Joy, how long did it take between applying for your hearing and getting the date? I have been waiting for a long time and am starting to wonder! Kristi -- disability hearing I heard from the attorney's office last Friday. My disability hearing is scheduled for Dec. 3rd at 915 AM. I am already anxious and scared. And I almost feel guilty for even asking for it. Just one of those things. It's hard to ask for help, especially when it has taken over two years of admitting that can no longer do many things I once did easily. I am not at all convinced that it will even go through. They did say I have a " good " judge so maybe he is one that will consider the information and medical records that have been compiled. I guess that maybe I show my short-comings more than I realize. I had a rare opportunity to go to an NFL football game Sunday - the ville Jaguars vs. the Miami Dolphins. We had to go several hours early as my father-in-law was working on a camera crew on the field. We had early lunch in the sportsbar at the stadium. Unfortunately, the tables were all the tall barroom type tables with no chairs. I had my cane and my " sensible " shoes and was alternating standing with my right foot on the rail and my left foot on it. It was not the best of situations but I was really enjoying the company. About 1/2 hr before we were to go to our seats, an older woman (probably 60's) came up to me with a barstool. She said, " I am going to my seat and don't need this now. I noticed you seemed to be struggling and I hope this will help you. " I almost cried, it was such a nice thing. It was heavenly to sit down. So maybe I am not fooling as many people as I think I am! Guest guest
Hi Joy, I can only imagine how scary the thought of the hearing must be. You have to put your faith in the experience and preparedness of your lawyer and know that you deserve this help and can do no more . I was lucky that I never got to that point of a hearing but I do have such similar feelings about asking for help and admitting to oneself that you can't do what you used to do. I have had disability for over a year now and am still struggling with all that daily. Some days are better than others with that. I look for inspiration and help with all of this constantly! You and others here on the list have been some of my biggest help. Now is the time for us to help you in any way that we can. Please know that we are here for you. take care and have a good day and try to put it(the hearing) from your mind whenever it jumps in there. PS.. the older woman brought tears to me eyes too! I have been waiting for a long time and am starting to wonder! Kristi, I hate to tell you this but after my second denial it was again appeal and I have waited for a hearing since September 2002. I just found out on October 10th that it is in December. I had my initial interview at the Social Security office (where the application was filed) in July of 2001. In October 2001 I called to check on my status only to discover that the file had not made it the 75 miles from gainesville FL to Jackonsville FL. My file was completely lost so even though I had copies of everything I had to re fill out lots of papers. I was told in August of 2003 (my dad has a friend who works in the scheduling office )that since my file had been checked on, it meant that I would be finding out about my hearing soon. So that only took 2 months. I figure I've been in it too long to give up the fight now. Joy
Guest guest
Dear Joy, What a sweet thing for that woman to do :-) I think the same way you do and was also surprised one day when my husbands step mother asked if I wanted to sit down while we were talking one day. She said she noticed how I had started to shift from one foot to another as well as started hunching over. She, as well as her husband, has had some problems and she recognized my body language. Seems that those out there who have or do suffer from back pain or other pain are more likely to notice these things. Have to say though I was shocked! Thought I had been doing such a good job of hiding it :-) Wishing you the best with the hearing. Wish it was sooner so that you didn't have to agonize over it for so long. Hugs, B. Guest guest
Hi Joy- Am glad you shared this info- I've been a nervous wreck wondering how the hearing will be when mine finally comes around- did you have to wait 2.5 yrs to even have the hearing? Were you turned down once as well? Hugs and Glad the hearing is over for you- praying for the outcome to be great! TJ disability hearing I had it today. My attorney was great, the judge was such a nice person-- seemed to listen carefully and asked good questions. The vocational person said that after reading the report from my doctor there was no work I can do. Depressing. I am glad to hear that for my case but overall, it was a dark day. The attorney feels it went well and says there should be a decision in roughly 1-3 months. I didn't think he'd make the decision today but I didn't know it would take that long. Does anyone know why it takes so long? Does he think really hard or something??? Laughing. I will take what I get. At least the weight is off my shoulders now. I've done all I could do the past 2.5 years. Now I'll just wait and see. Thank you, everyone, for all the support. Joy Sedgley
Guest guest
I am so happy for you Joy, that this is reaching closure for you and hope that all will go smoothly from that moment until the decision is handed down. I am sure that the three months quoted if likely a generous estimation so that you will be pleasantly surprised to get the results and to give you the impression that you have to wait a bit longer - so it may not take that long I hope. Rest now, you've done all that you can do now! Jill
