Guest guest
Chelly, Wow I am impressed. I thought it would take you more time. Keep up the great work. You took what we said and applied it to your baby and look at the result. You are a wonderful mother. Keep that baby close to you and keep nursing. It might continue to be difficult at times but the reward is well worth it. Go to LLL if you can and get support from women in your area. Where are you? Guest guest
Congratulations! I'm so glad it's working out for you. A whole day in bed would feel even nicer ;-) My first wasn't bf at all because he " refused the breast " and I was never given a satisfactory explanation as to why a baby would do that and I was not given enough help at the time to overcome it. Just today I read an article in Today's Parent magazine (Canadian) about how to overcome common breastfeeding problems and at the end of the article they discuss " breast refusal " according to this author it could be caused by a negative experience like a baby who was vigorously suctioned at birth or if baby had a difficult delivery and had a headache, forcing baby's head to the breast may have been painful. It mentions a couple techniques like mother talking softly to baby to calm him or taking baby into a warm bath with you to relax. The key is being patient, soothing and relaxed. I'm kind of sad that no one offered me suggestions like this 6 years ago, I was put through different positions and a SNS etc. because the nurses thought he was being lazy, he wanted the instant gratification of a bottle, he didn't want to work at the breast, how was he supposed to know that he would get instant gratifiacation at a bottle if he had never had one? Of course I didn't see this at the time *sigh* I really hope this works for you, you'll be so rewarded in a few months when you can look at him and know you did your best :-) Michele, mom of Arran 12-27-93 and Keely Paige 12-5-97 #3 EDD 3-13-00 It's a BOY! Guest guest
Chelly, Great job! That is the attitude. You don't think he nursed enough so you're going to work on more nursing instead of giving him a bottle. That is the way to accomplish your goal. Keep it up. The more rested and relaxed you are the more your milk will flow. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info Re: A day without Formula!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From: TrentonsMom@... Way to go, Chelly!!! You did it!! > Thank you very very much I could not have done it on my own, I am sure I > would have just given up! And ya know, not one of us here hid the bottles, or the formula, or told you when to nurse... YOU did it all by yourself! (With a little help from Trenton, though!!) If you had given up, you might have always wondered what you could have done differently to make it work. Give yourself some loving pats on the back, some praise in the mirror, and a hot cup of herbal tea! > (And its kinda nice lying in bed for an hour doing NOTHING) > Chelly WHAT?! You were busy making milk!! It's proven to require additional calories, so even while your hands and feet were still, your body was in full swing. Keep it going! Soon, you'll realize that sack of bottles and pacifiers is collecting too much dust in the garage and you'll get around to tossing them! YAY!! (We used one bottle for a vase once... I must admit that I think thats the best use of a bottle I've ever seen!) Congratulations, Chelly!!!

Think of all the things that you do when you lay in the same spot for a while... those same changes that make you happy might make Trenton happy, too. Sometimes it is fussing for food, but not all the time. Start telling yourself that you *know* Trenton just nursed well (you hear him swallow and he has several wet diapers each day), so you *know* he got enough, and then work on what else might be causing him to fuss. Give your body more credit: you DO make enough milk for him! As for taking Trenton to bed with you, that is the *best* way to make sure Mom gets enough rest in order to be a better Mom and to have energy to make more milk! The first thing I ask when someone tells me they're too tired to keep nursing during the night is " Do you sleep when the baby sleeps? " It's not a constitutional right, or God-given right, or basic human right that everyone must get 8 consecutive hours of sleep every night. You can get in lots of sleep if you sleep when the opportunity presents itself. > I really can't believe we made it the whole day 8)~ I knew you could do it! Doncha feel like the little train engine... " I think I can... I think I can... I think I can... I think I can... I knew I could! I knew I could! I knew I could! " Keep it going, Chelly! You're on the right track!
