Guest guest
Congrats! We're almost there...looking forward to celebrating on Dec 10th for our 1-year. The diet has made a world of difference for our younger daughter especially. I really think it's healing her colitis. We've had definite jumps in language, eye contact, etc...as well as the same regression points of 1 month, 3 motnhs, 5 months, 7 months, and 9 months. Yogurt has made a big difference for her, too, I beleive. She started on yogurt at 3 weeks into the diet whereas my other daughter had to wait several months when she first started the diet. Best of luck in the 2nd year! Rose (Mom to , 11, back on scd 1 month, and , 8, scd 9 months) > > Hi everyone - > WE just passed the one year mark with our daughter. Guest guest
Have you used the ice cream maker from Lucy's kitchen? I just ordered it because my son refuses to eat any yogurt-cow or goat. If you have, can you use the goat yogurt to make frozen yogurt or do you have to use cow's milk?-Thanks-Michal lbmenajovsky wrote: Congrats! Guest guest
Hi, Kate. My son has been SCD since 4/24/04. For the last few weeks, his verbal stimming has increased and his tactile stimming (running his fingers along surfaces), which had been absent for more than a year, returned. Otherwise, he seems ok. His progress has been slow, but steady * more noticeable to his DAN doctor, who sees him monthly, than to us (unless we deliberately recall what he had been doing a while ago). Do you or anyone else have any ideas as to what is going on? The only new thing is that he has started kindergarten. But we are (reasonably) certain that he has not been given any illegal foods, as he has only three classmates * and there are two teacher's aides. Plus, his teacher knew about the SCD before we met her. THANKS IN ADVANCE! We had serious regressions at the 21 day mark, 2-3 months, 5 months, 7 months and 9 months. They were so terrible that I almost gave up (especially the 9 month). We started the goat's yogurt at 6 months and I think it's been a huge part of the healing. Also, just to give you all some perspective -- our daughter didn't really a trophy bm until 5 months into the diet. But we did see behavioral improvements -- not every day, and they would disappear for a while with the regressions, but she came back from each regression better than she was before. Remember, these kids' guts have been deteriorating for years -- it makes sense that it will take longer than a few months to repair the damage. Anyway, if there's anyone out there who would like to share your experiences at a year or more, I'd love to hear them! Guest guest
I haven't made the ice cream...I did try just freezing a bit of the yogurt on a plastic toy ice cream cone in the freezer...but her nose knew...yougurt is yogurt, ain't no sugar treat happenin' there. In the beginning with my younger daughter I mixed a little honey and vanilla in it (til I found that honey is off the charts for a high phenol food and quickly tapered it out). I was able to eventually taper out the vanilla and now she eats 1/2 cup at a time plain...happily (and me too, I used the same technique b/c I used to hate the taste of yogurt, now I'm fine with it plain). My other daughter is just starting on a tsp a day, and I just tell her " quick bite " then she gets her beloved veggie pancake right after. I think she's starting to get used to the taste. Someone said before that you also lose a bit of the probiotic power if it's frozen...whether that's true or not...? Guest guest
Hi Debra - We saw a return of pre-SCD behaviors at different points in the diet. It looks like you might be hitting a five month regression. For us it lasted about 10-12 days. Hang in there! Kate > Hi, Kate. > > My son has been SCD since 4/24/04.
