Sally I can't say why .. although I do not experience that bout of tiredness .. have you had your blood levels checked to see if you are ok for iron, b12, etc?

Hope Dr. Thayer can sort it out for you. Glad you were not hurt!!lyssa

Hello everyone,

Hope you all are doing ok.

Can someone tell me at what point after surgery they stopped being tired easily. This week is my

4-month time postop. I tire out very easily. Yesterday was an example. I went to my aquatic

exercise class run by the arthritis foundation. I couldn't finish the full hour. Left early. Came home,

started boiling some chicken for me. Laid down.

The next thing I knew Doug had come home from work and through the smoky house came to the bedroom. He woke me up. I had burned my chicken, almost ruined the pan, and filled the house with smoke. Don't know why the smoke detector did not go off. Last night I went to bed, fell asleep relatively quickly and slept through the time I should have taken pills at bedtime. I can't seem to stay

with it.

I see Dr. Thayer tomorrow and will tell him about this tiredness, but I just wondered if others have had this effect following surgery. I don't know if it is my

age (54) or what. Just interested in what others have to say about this. Am I abnormal? (Dawn -

don't answer that one - giggle)

Take care everyone. Sally

Sally,

At a year post-op, I'm still easily tired. I take naps almost every day

and still sleep through the night. I have bursts of energy (like all the

errands I just did), but then I feel pretty wiped out. It could be the

heat, too I guess.

I've told Dr. Thayer about this and he says he hears it alot, but really

has no idea what's causing it. All my blood work came back normal. Sorry

I don't have better news, but at least you know that it's not your age,

and you're not alone!!

PS... drink more water. That seems to help me.

Hi guys

I'm not sure if the message got through or not because of the problems

with Yahoo, so, I will ask again just in case. Can anyone please give me

step-by-step instructions on how to sign up for this list? A friend of mine is

checking into the surgury and I told her what wonderful people there are here.

She has never been on a site like this. It used to be easy but now with this

Yahoo thing, who knows anymore LOL. Also, if someone could give me the number

for Dr's Thayer, Reines and Mun (or anyone else) I would very much appreciate

it. Have a good one today.

Don I replied yesterday but I guess it didn't show up. Hope this helps

Don

If your friend is willing I can directly subscribe her to the list. She just

needs to email me at lyssais@... OR

she can send a blank email to OSSG-NewEngland-subscribe

OR

click on http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/OSSG-NewEngland and subscribe

from there. She will of course have to sign up for yahoogroups to initially

if she has not already done so but it will walk her through the

instructions.

Good luck!

Don't know about the others, but the number to Beth Israel Deaconess' Center for Nutritional Medicine (Dr. Mun's group) is .

Sally:

As Dr. Thayer says, I am one of his "older ladies" -51 at time of surgery.

But, by 4 months out, I really did not get all that tired any longer (unless I had a very active day).

You may be slightly anemic and need something to give you some "zip" but only Dr. Thayer can answer that. By all means, let him know; you may just have a virus too. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi, I am 3 months out and am always wiped out. I actually fall asleep at

work (literally speaking). I had my appointment with Dr. Thayer on May 2nd

and he had some blood work done. He called me this past Saturday to tell me

that my serum iron level is low and to take 2-3 tablets of iron (ferrous

sulfacte) a day. I new there had to be something wrong. I am always

wanting to fall asleep. Maybe that could be your problem too! Hope all

works out! Marla Seelye

Sally,

I'm sure that Dr. T will have your blood checked. The last thing that I thought would happen to me would be that my iron level was low, but low and behold he checked my blood and that was it. I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat!! Hope you find out what it is. Take care. Marla

Marla,

Unfortunately, Dr. T could find no cause for the tiredness. Not that

I want there to be something wrong, but I’d like a solution. All my blood

levels are normal.

Lea,

Funny u mention this. Since surgery, I tire VERY easily, and have developed

bone spurs in both hips, and now on my knee cap. I did have one bone spur

removed prior to surgery...they blame the spurs on my weight??? Ok..so how

come I have more spurs now since losing almost 200 lbs, and I'm more tired?

I do have low iron, but take my sulfate (prescription)...awaiting to have my

14 hour fasting blood sugar done this week sometime, but makes me wonder how

many people have developed bursitis, or inflammatory type problems. Is it

possibly because we're all so much more active, and using areas of our

bodies we didn't know we had maybe?

Just curious!

Let us know how you make out.

Good luck!

Dawn

Re: Tiredness

Ok I am 10 mths out and always tired. I went to my PCP today to get

some blood work done and my hip checked. I have had a sore hip for a

few months now. Well I have developed bursitis in my hip and am now on

Celebrex. If that doesn't work in 4 weeks I will be getting a cortisone

shot in my hip.

For supplements I take: A multi vitamin, 1,000 mcg of B12, calcium with

iron and vit. D, and Potassium. We will see what the blood works says.

Lea,

You’ve probably read about my tiredness as well. Wish I had a solution

for you. Also, I found out AFTER surgery that I have osteo arthiritis in

my hips. It flared up befire surgery, but was doagnosed afterward. I’ve

also had chronic lower back pain since surgery and don’t know what causes

it. I’m sure more exercise would help :)
