Sorry you’re having such a time of it. I struggle with C, too, so I know

how hard it is, but when it’s your child it is tough. :-(

I wouldn’t say that the diet isn’t working. The C can take some time to

clear up. In my case, it took a couple months.

But for some reason I’m struggling with this again. What I’m doing is

making sure I drink ½ my body weight in ounces of water

and having a brisk walk everyday, and eating more cooked veggies. A website

I read today said to add olive oil to veggies, this will help, too.

I’m sorry I don’t know what else to tell you. Hopefully some other moms

who’ve been there will know.

Blessings,

Subject: Need Help....

I am a little at my wits end here. I have been doing the diet for

about 1 1/2 weeks (we started earlier, but I wasn't using " legal "

only). I did the intro diet for two days, no infractions. We have had

no real infractions except this morning my son got up early and found

pineapple that I had cut up...not really illegal, but it wasn't

cooked.

He is very very constipated. I called the dr. and she wants me to

give him Miralax because he hasn't gone really for over 10 days. He

has gone three times in which two were little balls with mucus and

sand and once a pretty good size. His bowels are worse than ever on

this diet.

I have not been giving honey at all...but he is allowed 1 banana per

day. I did have him eating applesauce, then cut that out and only

made pearsauce because I thought maybe the apples were doing it.

He is eating like a HORSE. I will make the chicken cupcakes recipe

(this will count for his 1 banana) and he will eat ALL the cupcakes.

He is eating chicken, hamburger, zucchini, butternut squash, pears,

banana, eggs, (apples). I cook all veggies/fruits (except this

mornings pineapple). He is drinking prune nectar every day....I don't

want to introduce lots of new things until he is going semi-

regularly...

What am I doing wrong? His behavior has improved since the initial

reaction, but he is still not himself (pre-diet), and neither would I

be, not going for so long.

How should I or SHOULD I hold the doctor off on the Miralax?

Nova,

Constipation is common in the beginning...... especially if he is eating a lot

of the concentrated proteins..... meat, eggs. Apples can be somewhat " binding " ,

due to the pectin...... but I've heard that bananas can be, too.. So, you've

done a good thing with switching to pears. How about adding green beans or

spinich? Those are usually well tolerated at this point. Are you doing the

constipation protocol.... the prune nectar and O.J. .... or just the prune

nectar alone? I would definitely try adding magnesium...... but you may want to

do the enema as Jody mentioned. You really need to get him going. This is not

how it will always be...... but it is common at first. Eating like a horse is

very common, too...... we aren't sure why. Maybe their little bodies are saying

" AH!! Good, nutritious food...... AT LAST!! " ... and trying to make up for lost

time. Hang in there.

Nova, I hope that your son is feeling better about the constipation

issue. One of my sons had a huge C problem as well.

After few days on having him on SCD he started to have his BMs every

day. But I didn't have any idea how to do the things and I

introduced a lot of food and fruits very soon. After a week of

being on the diet my son started to be constipated again; it was

really bad. I started to contact this group and read more about the

diet. I had the good fortune that Becky and answered my

messages and advised me to slow down. So I started to do everything

again and mostly introduce each new food very slow. I started a

calendar that I wrote that I gave to them and the data about them

for each day. Many people told me to give to my son magnesium or

Miralax, but I didn't pay attention, because I knew very deep in me

that the SCD will help him... and it did!

I re-started everything over again and he reacted very well. I

peeled and cooked all his fruit and vegetables. I quit giving them

nut flour, but I substituted PB or other nut butter for it. My son

started to have his BMs every other day. It made me happy but I was

not satisfied, because I wanted to find the way that my son had his

Bms every day. So, I started to give to him a lot of

liquids...soups. And from that day on he and his brother have soup

once a day every day. I am very creative " chef " and it helps him a

lot. Also I added a lot of beet in his diet (pancakes, cookies, and

juice that is the combination of beet juice, OJ and water). In the

cookies I added other fruit such as pear or apple or squash.

My son is doing very well, and I hope that your son does well soon

too.

Good luck!
