Hi:

If you were treated with antibiotics for the BV you could have a yeast infection. Have they checked you for that?

Hello,

I am new to this group. Was just treated for bacterial vaginosis, which my doc confirmed two weeks ago was gone. I am left with this awful burning feeling, which comes and goes. I had been having sharp, fleeting pains but this seems to be susiding. My question is, that my gyne wants to prescribe estrogen cream for the burning, does anyone know how the estogen cream would stop the burning? Im just concerned about putting anything else up there now. Thanks!

I am reading these posts and becoming more frustrated with my doctor. If I were to use the estrace as she prescribed, it is half a tube every other day, which seems like it would cause further infections according to these posts. However, my burning feels like it is coming from inside my vagina, so Im not sure how this is going to work if I just put it on the outside??AOL now offers free email to everyone. Hey Melinda,

I have thought about the sinus infections all the time. I started

having them in Jan/06 off and on. I tried a lot of natural remedies,

but they kept coming back Finally got tired of them in July/06, and

went to the DR. She did some blood tests, and my white blood cells were

high. So she called me for a follow up said since Ive had them for so

long we should do anti-biotics treatment. Since July/06 I havnt had any

sinus infections. Although I do get sinus headaches from sometimes.

Ive thought maybe the bacteria from the sinuses migrated to the vagina,

and thats what caused my discharge/smell in Aug/06. And that the DR

misdiagnoised it as BV, and then the anti-biotic she gave me then

caused so sort of uncommon yeast as well.

All my cultures are negative, but ive read uncommon yeasts dont show.

Ive also thought about strep-b or some other bacteria from the sinus

infections. I know with cultures here in Canada all they check for is

yeast, BV, and STD's also the quality of lab that does the cultures

can be a factor. Basically I am at the mercy of DR's who dont have a

clue like most of us here.

Take Care...Tina (my full name is Konstantina, I know its so fresh of

the boat...lol)

Hollis,

I did not know to rub the estrace in for 10 seconds! I just kind of spread it on quickly and left it. That is probably why I got such a bad yeast inf.

Tina,

Hi there. I also started with BV in July/06...then yeast. Now, I have constant burning, redness, soreness, raw feeling on my vulvar. When I had the BV, my whole pelvic area ached and ached. I had to two courses of the Flagyl. I guess that started the yeast. For a long time, I had negative yeast cultures. Recently I asked my GYN to do two cultures vaginal and vular and I wanted them to be cultured for several weeks. It did not take that long for the yeast to grow, but she is still watching them to see what type of yeast. She said some are hard to treat and are resistant to Diflucan and I may have to try boric acid. I think that if a patient has yeast symptoms and the wet mount or the 48 hour culture does not show yeast than they should just let the culture keep going for several weeks to see if anything grows. So many women I think are misdiagnosed because the tests are just not properly performed. Not all women are the same and some of us are a little more complex and we should not be sent home and told that "everything looks okay"! the more I read these posts the more I cannot believe the girls out there with the same problems as me! It seems like we are having some type of inflammatory response to the infections and are being misdiagnosed or things are being overlooked because we do not fit the "average woman". Anyway, that is just my opinion. As you can see, I am very frustrated. The Estrace does work when used properly. I overused it. I was using too much and I was not rubbing it in like Hollis mentioned in one of her posts. I hope you have luck and try to find a GYN that will listen to you and is willing to let you try things that you have researched.

Hi Carolyn,

We are talking a lot about burning today it seems and

also I think we are talking about different things.

When I used to talk about burning (when I had burning)

it was my vulvar and anal skin that burned. The

estrace helped that a lot. It seems that women with

Lichen Sclerosis and other vulvar skin pain (maybe

more than the skin in some) have estrogen receptors

that don't function properly so the estrace cream

increases the estrogen to the system and helps to

heal. I only used it on my skin.

Some people are talking about inner burning, which

sounds like maybe as nerve thing or muscle spasm? It

is good to be specific as we all sometimes have

different things. Estrace however is a very magical

thing I think and if one isn't allergic to one of the

ingredients it ought to be a good thing. If one is

allergic they can have it specially mixed by a

compounding pharmacy with different ingredients. If it

doesn't help you though after a fair trial time

perhaps one should eventually stop using it. It

certainly stopped my skin burning which I think was

damaged by constant yeast, antifungal creams, maybe

cross reacting with gluten (which it does and causes

me have have a really super sensitive reaction), and

steroid creams which did nothing for me.

Hi Mindy, I'm not ignoring you and hope you are doing

fine. :o)

Tina,

Yeah, my husband is from Canada...he hates that we have to pay for medical insurance, but I am telling him that if we were in Canada, I wouldn't be able to just go to whoever I want, whenever I want, and get the drugs and labs I want, like I can now because we pay for it. So it's tough either way I guess. =) Melinda

I had similar symptoms that went on for a month and the dr. discovered it was herpex virus inside thte walls of my vagina. It was not visible. I could not believe it because my husband doesn't carry the virus, but dr. says it was probably transmitted through oral sex. i'm saying this because the burning only went away after a week on Valtrex and it might help someone else experiencing that daily burning. I'm grateful valtrex cured it. Carolyn52192@... wrote: thanks mindy but my symptoms do feel like they are coming from within the vagina, the burning. Hi Carolyn,

I know how frustrated you are--believe me. I have burning, stinging, irritation on my vulvar. It all started with infections (yeast, bacterial vaginosis) and here I am. The best thing is to see a specialist. Warm baths really help for me. I try to take one to two per day--especially when things are flared. I am seeing Dr. in Mass on Wednesday and I hope to get somewhere with her. Hang in there.

I totally agree with you I took this clindesse for my bv infection and omg nothing is worse than this burning, I do agree with you. I wish I had taken the oral meds for the bv infection, I am thinking that the intravaginal antibiotic really messed things up in there for me. I am going to a homeopathic doctor tomorrow so I will let you all know if anything earth shattering happensAOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at AOL.com.

has anyone had cytolytic vagiinosis before? I read that lactibacillus would help with bv so I was inserting the pills internally as well as taking them orally, I am wondering if perhaps I took too much?? and this is causing the burning?

Carolyn,

Hi again. I do not have pain. It is a burning, stinging, irritated, rawness and it goes from just below the clitoris to all the way back behind the vaginal openning. It is visibly red. I have had off and on yeast inf. for years and these symptoms would always come with a yeast inf, but would eventually go away. In July of 06 I had yeast and then bacterial vaginosis and these symptoms on my V NEVER went away!! I has gotten worse and covers a larger area of my skin now. It does flare. The symptoms are always there, but sometimes are worse (much worse with yeast inf.), but I do have times when I feel better than others. I take Neurontin (for nerve pain) 1800 mg a day, Estrace Cr., sometimes a steroid cream (very sparingly) and that is about all that has given me relief. I have tried many creams and most of them just irritate me more (other than what I just listed). I guess with a lot of us, we just get this type of inflammatory process that happens after an inf. or chronic inf. like yeast and we have a difficult time getting this calmed down. Oh, I also take Allergra, which is an allergy med. Sometimes allergy meds help. You might want to even try taking Benadryl at night. This will also help you sleep if your symptoms are keeping you up at night. It is important to find a doctor that listens to you. We have all struggled and have been to numerous docs. I also started physical therapy last week. I have a GREAT therapist and am hoping to get relief with that. My pelvic floor muscles are very messed up. I guess due to all the discomfort I have been in. This might even be causing my symptoms in my V area. SO, I AM PRAYING THAT THIS HELPS. I know that I have a long way to go with that, but that is okay. I really feel like I am on the road to recovery and I always know that I have this wonderful group behind me and to listen to me. THANKS EVERYONE!

Like I said before-----HANG IN THERE!

Hi there,

It is interesting just how individuals use different words to describe

things: I would have thought that burning was a kind of pain, yet I do

hear of other women who say the same thing - that burning is not the

same as pain. If I get burnt then I am in pain.

I think you are managing your treatment options very well- in the UK

we often have to struggle to get anything other than Amitriptyline...

Good luck,

Kay

What is your yeast type, Mindy?

I have been dealing with a rare yeast--Parapsilosis.

Did you have a culture done?

All my problems started in August of 06 with yeast and BV. ( Medications

are what's causing the problems, but doctors don't give a crap or are

blind as a bat to that fact.) The " cure " is worse than the " disease. "

If someone would have told me I would still be dealing with vaginal

problems in March of 07, I would never have believed it.

Umm since when can a vagina control our life?

My vagina needs to get its act together!

LOL. (Hey, ya' gotta keep a sense of humor or you're a goner.)

Pain to me is something " sharp. " Menstrual cramps are pain to me. But

burning, skin inflammation etc. is not what I call " pain. " Although I do

not much care for days that feel like my crotch is in a " vice-grip " from

the inside out. Vice grip, hahaha I cannot BELIEVE this is my life right

now.

Yes, when things get sooooo ridiculous, I laugh at the insanity of this

situation. It keeps me sane. Controlled by a crotch, who would have

thought? I can battle people in business, solve any damn problem in

life, but I can't win the battle with my crotch? Fine then, I'll trade

my crotch in for a penis!

LOL

I definately notice the burning gets worse when stressed, emotional, or

tired. Although it's not always possible, I try to put things in

perspective, and remember that my health and well being are more important

than most things I get stressed about.

They do tests for food sensitivities, Celiac and

Gluten Sensitivities, gene testing for potential

crohn's I think and colitis and Celiac and Gluten

Sensitivity.

They have a page that explains the tests. They don't

do allergy tests. That is different and doesn't help to

tell you what you need to know which is what

antibodies are attacking your body. (IgA)
