Guest guest
Dawn, Constipation in a baby is often a sign of food allergy. I find dried apricots much more palatable than prunes, personally but my kids loved them. Be careful and don't give too many prunes it can be explosive, if you know what I mean. My dd is 9 months and she has been having a tough time with it this past week.. I'm not feeding her a lot of solids yet, and what I do feed her shouldn't make her that constipated. But she is having a rough time at it lately. If anyone has a remedy or idea I would really appreciate it. thanks Dawn ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DON'T HATE YOUR RATE! Earth's Best makes a nice prune and oatmeal cereal (in a jar) that is totally organic. You can also just work prunes into her diet so she gets some on a regular basis, thereby preventing constipation. Margaret Avoid pushing too hard. Guest guest
I haven't had to do it but I think pear juice is supposed to help out with constipation. You could dilute it so it wouldn't cause the opposite problem. Just a thought.
Guest guest
hi dawn, from what i know, the best thing to help her is more breastmilk. are you mixing her cereal with it as well? if not, maybe try that. if you are feeding her rice you can cut down on the amount because that tends to be very constipating. oatmeal is a good non-binding cereal and my son loved it. good luck stephanie Constipation remedies? > From: clementdnc@... > > Hi guys, > Does anyone have a good remedy for constipation? Guest guest
Sometimes I would drink prune juice or eat prunes and this seemed to help a little. Other than that, I take flax seed and that helps me and thus helps the wee one. Hope you are doing ok. Theresa

Dawn, Try nursing longer, or offering more of the hindmilk... say, after hand-expressing or pumping some of the foremilk. The higher fat content of the hindmilk may help pass her stools. Offer to nurse just prior to giving solids to your daughter. Also, I always provided extra water to my kids, rather than fruit juices, if/when they ever had trouble passing stools. From my own experience, this combination worked great if/when my kids were delayed with their BMs. However, if you can see she is visibly uncomfortable from straining when she does have a BM and isn't very successful, I'd focus on the opposite end... with mine, I would smear a Vit E capsule on their anus and use the diaper to rub it in... sometimes the stimulation and the little lubrication the Vit E provided was enough to help pass a dry stool. Some mothers use a portion of a glycerin suppository to help stimulate their baby's bottoms... and others use rectal thermometers.. I've never tried either just because I was successful with other methods. Personally though, I'd hate having something shoved up when I had enough problems getting things OUT already.
