hi!

i finally may have some input for this group!

i always thought that i had major flare-up's when i was in dr.'s office's,

shopping malls, that type of thing. confined areas with lots of people.

maybe it's the fluorscent lights?

it would seem like i'd get a flare-up for no reason. not hot, not

embarassed...

i'll have to notice the lighting.

bye! syd

Hi all,

I don't feel that florescent lights make me flush, however I do

notice that when I'm under them that I appear redder and the small

vessels on my face are more visible, yet when I am back under

different lighting that the redness and vessels are less noticeable.

This form of lighting is probably the least flattering even for those

with great complexions. You can see every little flaw under

them. Years ago I would see my self under florescent lights and

panick thinking I was having a bad flush. I came to realize that

this wasn't the case that it was just the way the lighting made me

look. Although I personally feel that florescent lights are

unappealing and probably not good for us in the long run. These

lights are supposed to depleat milk of calcium. So I'm sure the

effects of them can't be good for us. It must be frustrating for

those of us thatare stuck under them for lengthy periods of time.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Best to all,

Lynnette

I totally agree with you regarding florescent lighting. I look much redder

in the office than I do at home and I don't think its because of stress

either lack of or too much. Just different lighting giving off different

light.

Anyone found anything useful to counter the effect?

Hi ,

Yes, but you have to be brave to do it! Try a clamp-on umbrella (it has

a " C " clamp on the bottom of it). Sometimes they are called beach chair

umbrellas. Clamp it to your desktop. Then, because they're usually made of

such light fabric, I lay a heavy black cloth on top of the umbrella. It

really works to keep the flouescent light away from your face. If you also

use a computer and have to deal with the monitor light, then that's another

issue that complicates it quite a bit. I use a plastic window film over my

monitor to cut down on the light.

I used this setup in the classroom. I decided my health was important

enough to risk looking foolish, and people were very understanding. Having a

good sense of humor helped! The lights cause more than oiliness for me,

however. They cause intense burning and swelling.

Hi Syd,

Even worse than flourescent lights for me (and flourescent lights are bad

enough) are the spotlight, or cannister type, lights in some offices, stores,

and restaurants. A spot can be twenty feet away from me, but if it's strong,

and if I'm in it for a length of time (long enough for a meal at a resaurant)

it'll make me flare even if it's only shining on my back!

This disease is very complex, indeed.

Spotlights are different than flourescent lights -- the spotlights give off

a lot more heat than flourescents -- it's probably the heat that is causing

your flare-ups.

those spotlights rang a bell here--Our church has those all over and if I

sit

under one of them , I flare immediately!!!!
