Guest guest
Hello all. I am loving this group ! Question....I recently had an ugly flare-up and Dr. gave me 5% lidocaine to try - previously only had used 2%. Obviously, it felt like a wonder drug and helped me be able to sleep and function. My question is.....is this stuff ok to use long term? Frequently? The " as needed " on the label leaves alot to interpretation.
Guest guest
The 5% Lidocaine is in ointment form and I find works better for the external pain. The 2% is a gel. I use this one when I need to for internal pain because of some other medical conditions I have going on. I have been using both of these products for 10 years for my vulvodynia. The As Needed means that you apply it as soon as the pain starts, not when you can no longer stand the pain. This is the same for when the instruction is given for oral painkillers such as those in the narcotic pain medicine class. When one waits til they can't stand the pain the medicine either will not work at that time or take longer to work when you apply it.
