Guest guest
Hey Mike, I am just about 5 months out and I have stalled in my weight loss. I have actually put 1 pound on. I think what we might need to do is to pick up our game and exercise more. I have a whole heap of weight to lose as well. Hitting the Panic Button........ I need to talk to others in the group that are 5 months or more out from surgery. I have just past my 5 month mark, and in my 5th month I lost a total of just 10 pounds..... Am I freaking out to early? I am so scared that my " weight loss " period is over! Somebody please talk to me! I have lots more weight I want to lose! For those that are 5 months or more out, what is this time like? What do I need to do to keep losing the weight? HELP Mike T
Guest guest
My surgeon told me that I should expect to lose 1/2 to 1 lb a day for the first 6 months so 10lbs in a month doesn't sound that far off from that. I'm not losing much if anything now that I'm eight months out but I'm working out in the gym for nearly an hour every day so my body is changing muscle tone wise. My PA told me at my six month appointment that I could expect to lose about 40lbs over the next six months. I guess that didn't sound like much to me but whatever, it's certainly a lot more than I'd ever lost before with diets and a lot if you ask non WLS folks. I have already lost about 20lbs since that appointment and I guess it's only been two of the six months. I wouldn't sweat it so long as you're sweating from working at it. Guest guest
Mike, I'll be 5 months post op next week. I just recently lost 3 pounds after a 3 week plateau. I too am concerned. I still have another 70 lbs to lose before reaching goal weight. I know, for me, I need to start exercising more. My husband and I have set up a routine together in which we will work out together here at home now in the evenings for 45-60 min. We plan to start our routine this evening. I am looking forward to it. I want to be fit enough before spring so I can join a softball team. I always loved playing softball in highschool and want to take it up again. I graduate next year, so I'll have more time for things like playing softball. How much food can you consume now for a meal? I can now eat about 4-5 oz. Is that normal? I have an appointment with my surgeon on 10 October. It seems like it is so far away. I can't wait to talk with him. I always heard that the first 6 months post op are the " honeymoon " period in which the most weight is lost. So, if I am coming to the end of the honeymoon phase, what can I expect in the following months. Sorry I couldn't reassure you Mike. in Virginia 299/221/150 Lap RNY: 5/3/06 Hitting the Panic Button........ I need to talk to others in the group that are 5 months or more out from surgery. Guest guest
I measure all my food, if I eat solid food like chicken I can only eat about 2oz. of it.....But my diet consists of allot of soft foods, like soups and chilli and scram. eggs.......I can eat about 8-9 oz. of soup. (i tend to just half a can of soup and eat it in two meals during the day) I feel like I eat less now then when I first came out of surgery.....I know it sounds strange, but the longer I am out of the surgery the less I think about food and the less I care about what and how much I eat......I can go along time without eating, just drink drink drink all day, and I feel fine. I am at a total loss....... Mike T Hitting the Panic Button........ > > > I need to talk to others in the group that are 5 months or more out > from surgery. Guest guest
, That's interesting because my surgeon's office refers to the first 18 months after surgery as the honeymoon period. They do split it into sets of six months saying that you'll lose X amount in the first six months then 1/2X in the next six and then 1/4X in the last six. I would be surprised if people did lose weight, albeit at a slowing rate, for at least the first year. Here's someone that talks about the honeymoon period as being nine to twelve months: http://www.weightlosssurgerycoach.com/faqs.shtml Mike in GR > > Mike, > > I'll be 5 months post op next week. Guest guest
I was eating more solid foods by 3 months. I was told not to drink shakes, yogurt smoothies, etc. because they have calories in them, are liquids and do not give you a full feeling. No soups either, chili is okay (love that stuff still). You seem convinced that something is wrong. If that's the case you should contact your doctor. You exercise regularly right? I didn't but do now and regret not having started regular, long term exercise sooner. It's hard the first couple weeks but today in the gym I worked out just as hard as I always do and it was no sweat. Well actually there was a lot of sweat but you know what I mean. Guest guest
Don't panic! My dr said that after the 3rd or 4th month 10 pounds a month is a good average. He said some months may be more, some a little less, but 10 pound ave. is OK. I am sure it is scary and even depressing. If you wan to kick it up switch your exercise workout and " shock " your body a bit. Keep on with the good things you are doing and stay calm. Even at 10 pounds a month you are doing great! Guest guest
Mike dont worry. Your body sometimes has to catch up with all the weigh you have already lost. Watch next month you will drop a whole lot and you will feel silly for freaking out. I know thats how it was for me and my mom. One week we might lose a pound and the next week we would lose 8 pounds. Dont worry and just stick to what your supposed to do. Drink plenty of water. And make sure to get your protein in. And you will do amazing. I am a year and a half out and still losing weight. But im trying to not lose any more. I dont want to look sickly. Amber --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Guest guest
Thanks Amber, It helps to hear from you and others that have been where I am right now. I have lost a couple of pounds in the last few days, but I have not eaten much because I have been sick, I have been living on Nyquil and sleeping......I hope it keeps going for me that long as you....
