icteric Lab Result Question

Hi...My husbands last labs came back with a the following note under

bilirubin " Specimen is icteric " . My search of the internet has taught

me that is synonmous with jaundice. This particular lab result said

this and previous labs have not - even though of course his bili is

high. Does this mean something different is happening? Or was the

sample bad and he should be retested? My husband has called his GI,

but usually there is a wait for an answer. Does anyone have any info?

Thanks for your help! I'm just anxious....

the blood probably looked orange in color. A previous person that did his lab may have seen the same thing and not mentioned it. icteric is a relative term. How orange is orange? Was there a difference in the numeric value of the lab? Does he have any changes in symptoms? Those are what are important. Relax. Yahoo! Mail virus scanning helps detect nasty viruses!
