Guest guest
Barbara: I know that itching feeling around the nose. I get it when I eat one of my trigger foods. The itching gets so bad that I break the skin. The skin feels kind of waxy too. I don't know if a trigger food is causing your itching, but I know that some people on the list have had to try a few types of px antihistamines like Claritin and Atarax, among others, before they discover the one that works for them. There is an otc spray inhaler called Nasalcrom containing sodium cromolyn (sp?), and it's supposed to stop mast cells from producing histamine. I use it off an on to help control my nose redness. It seems to work for me. You really have to figure out what your triggers are. It takes awhile, but it has helped to reduce my flares by a good 75%. Mine are certain foods, stress and getting overheated. We're all different with that. Also, do you have a skin cleansing and moisturizing regime that works for you? That's a big help to find something that heals instead of making the problem worse. Drinking about 10 glasses of cool/cold water a day helps me a lot too. Lastly, some people (including myself) find that taking an acid reducer for your stomach called Tagamet reduces or even eliminates a flare. We've all been there - thinking that nothing can help and losing hope. There are lots of things you can do to help yourself and gain control over this yukky disease. I hope your skin gets better soon!
