If diarrhea has cleared you can start adding cautiously. Small amounts . (The Stages are just a guideline. They are not engraved in stone. Same with spices and herbs. Garlic-yes! The whole fleshy part-peeleed -crushed, sliced or grated. but for a while until things have settled. I'd use it cooked Which spices and herbs please? Herbs and spices can be fresh or dried but not mixtures as they may contain starch. So- ground cinnamon, ground cloves for example would be fine. but No apple pie spice, steak spice or curry mixtures. have Chef Dad make those himself. Carol F. Guest guest
Hi Sally, I hope you and your new addition ae doing well > Anyway... to recap... Started diet on the 11th, start up for 3.5 > days (acid reflux), it cleared and we moved to stage 2 (green beans > and bananas added), added squash soon after, stools on the 16th... > then more and more fruit and vegatables (3+ servings a day) despite > mushier and mushier stools, illegal on Sept. 24, yellow mush > blowouts back Sept. 26th. > > Start up diet that afternoon... on the 28th (dinner... 48+ hours > later) we didn't have acid reflux, nor did he feel like garbage... > we figured we are not starting from the same place so we added green > beans, 29th squash and zuccini, 30th spinach, very well digested > today, smells right too... but still mush. > > Husband is a major chef... cooking right now with full garlic clove > (he says he'll pull it out after) and spices and herbs (in a spice > packet that he'll also pull out). He says he read that spices were > fine in the BTVC book... I don't remember. > > Question 1 - Now, I'm scared of fruit... should we add bananas now? If he hasn't had a bm in two days some ripe bananas may help. Some find it binding but if he has just come through a couple of days of mush it may be okay. Just start with small amounts each day and gradually work up. So, probably a quarter of ripe banana the first day a little more the next day. Also try not to overdo it to much and try to get him to branch out with some other cooked vegetables, like extra squash, beans etc. > Question 2 - Are we going too fast with the veggies (no, Nigel has > no problem eating them or anything for that matter). We moved > squash up sooner than later as per info in the BTVC book. We're > scared with the amount of protein he's eating, every meal/snack... > way too many eggs. And, we're casein free. Nope not to fast with the veggies. As long as they are peeled and cooked (deseeded as appropriate) they are a great source of nutrients. > Question 3 - Garlic is stage 3... is that the whole vegatable or the > esence of the vegatable? Same with spices and herbs. Cooked garlic is in stage two n the chart. This just means to try it when you are ready for more variety of cooked vegetables, but not quite ready for raw veggies. If the herbs and spices are powdered they may be okay now. If they are still whole you might want to wait a while- for example: large chunks of garlic or onion. If they are uncooked wait a while longer - eg. parsley sprigs. The spices to avoid are spice mixtures like commercial apple pie spice, chili powder, curry powder and garlic and onion powder. Homemade mixes of these are okay. Sheila 44 mos SCD, 20 yrs UC mom of 29 mos SCD

Fat has 9 calories per gram. Protein and carbs have 4. So, for a 2054 calorie diet. Protein 20% would be 102.7g Fat 30% would be 68.4g Carbohydrates 50% would be 256.75 So, yes, a little too much protein and fat and not enough carbs.
