Special Olympics has numerous sports in both summer and winter. What are

you looking for? There's volleyball, skiing, skating, swimming, and most often

track and field. There's tons. To search just type in special Olympics and

the state you are in at the top of the tool bar. From there you can learn

about it and the things offered in your own state, and who to contact.

But just in case, here are the sports offered.

Alpine Skiing* Aquatics* Athletics* Gymnastics* Powerlifting

Rollerskating Sailing* Tennis* Volleyball* Basketball* Figure Skating*

Floor Hockey* Nordic Skiing* Snowboarding* Speed Skating* Ten Pin Bowling

* Candlepin Bowling*

* Cycling*

* Bocce*

* Unified Fishing

* Golf*

* Golf Skills

* Softball*

* * Equestrian*

* Five-a-Side Soccer*

* Eleven-a-Side Soccer*

* Offered as both traditional Special Olympics and Unified Sports.

Look up special olympics in your state on comp. they will give contact

info. and the sports they offer. In new Mexico kids can train at age

6and 7. competition does not take place till age 8. Friends of ours

have twin girls (24 now) that have been involved since childhood.

they still love it and help coach!!

In our community, this is done through the school so you go through the PE

teacher or whatever. Don't know if it's the same elsewhere. Aubrie is 8

(the starting age) but our school's go thru grade 2, then on to another

building for grade 3. Since most kids are age 8 til grade 3, the Special

Olympics person is at that school. We've got enough on our plate that we're

gonna wait til next year to even think of it. I think the sports offered

are different by region as well.

Looking forward to hearing more about what y'all find out...

my school district does an 8 week traiing for the kids for the special

olympics, it is 2x week, with the adaptive PE teacher and volunteers from the

high

school. the kids get warm up suits and trophies all given through our

school district.

has a ball! the county usually has all the information and each

county does the " olympics " .

i would encourage all to participate. the day is very exciting, a parade,

awards, food etc.

I saw a post regarding special olympics and of course did not read it, but

does any one know how to get information on the different sports they

offer?

How do you find things out? I was thinking of getting the boys involved.

Thanks,
