Sue,

Why, after a year and a half on SCD, are you not wanting them to have fruit?

Fruit is certainly allowed on SCD..... maybe he's craving the nutrients in it?

Are you still having any stool issues?

he can have fruit... he has for a long time now... but i was always

controlling when and how much... now, i have decided to open up the

gates to see if he could self regulate and he dosen't seem to satiate

on it... i have also thought that perhaps he needs the nutrients in

them... but i think some of him craving/hourding the fruit is because

he has been denied access for so long unless i give it to him.. does

this make sense?

as far as stool issues; he is certainly going more often now and he has

some gas... but, he isn't going back to daily diarrhea which he used to

have; so i guess that's a good sign ;)

this all may be behavioral then and he may calm down after some time

when he realizes he can have access to it whenever he wants.

i have played around w/ the phenol issue in the past and believe they

have some connections here... especially since all their favorite

fruits are high in them.

yes, they get probiotics... from harry's, one mini scoop per day

(though not consistent)

and, they get goat yogurt.. 1 heaping tsp per day

i have been very diligent about supplements; i can't imagine this is it.

i still think it might be behavioral; denied access for so long has

increased his desire... i'm going to play out the scene where i let him

have free access for a bit and see what happens.

Sue,

What about a compromise?

Free access to the lower phenol fruits.

And then serve him the high phenol fruits at planned meals and

snacks and give him a No Fenol enzyme before the meal/snack.

And by free access, I mean asking for and then receiving the

item.

I don't think that children should have free access to food. No

matter whether they are NT or ASD. I think that adults should

make food choices for children.

But if he comes to you and asks for something to eat, allow him

a free choice between low phenol foods.

At meals and snacks, give enzymes first and then feed him until

he is full.
