Guest guest
Hi, Beth. I've been looking at this list as well as some information on eczema, as I have both cea and eczema, and some of the information is similar for both. One thing I came across was treating the digestive element of eczema, and in it, it suggested using acidophilus & grapefruit seed extract to replace the " good " bacteria, and kill off the excess yeast in the system. It said that initially, one might experience a " die off " effect -- an exacerbation of symptoms -- which is a normal reaction when there is an excess of yeast in the system. I just thought it might be related to what you went through. In many holistic/natural therapies, there's often a period when things get worse before they get better, but the improvement is more pronounced and more permanent. Also, it's important to determine whether it is a " die-off " effect, or a true allergic reaction -- sounds like it was the latter for you, but maybe it was a bit of the former too. Just more info to think about! Chantal ----Original Message Follows---- To: rosacea-supportegroups Subject: Digestive Problems Date: Mon, 15 May 2000 21:15:45 -0000 I just had an epiphany regarding my ongoing digestive problems and thought I would share my experience with you all in the hopes that maybe I will be able to prevent someone else's suffering. I had always had what I thought was a " cast iron " stomach, which is ironic because I am so sensitive elsehwere (allergies, migraines, and of course the Big R). That was until the past year, when I began to get indegestion nearly every time I ate. When I discovered this group last Fall, I tried the digestive enzymes and at first thought they were alleviating the problem, but within a few days, the symptoms were as strong as ever. More recently I have been taking Acidophilus and again noticed relief for a couple of days before my symptoms roared back with a vengeance. I constantly felt bloated and cramped and often was awakened at night with sharp abdominal pains. It got to the point where I was afraid to eat! I decided to do some research over the weekend and logged into a Naturopath site. The practioner in residence had answered a question from a woman suffering from symptoms similar to mine, and she said the first thing that has to be ruled out is a food allergy. She mentioned one of the most common is Soy. Well, that just about jumped off the page at me. Since November, when I gave up dairy, I incorporated Soy into my diet in a big way, represented at virtually every meal(I am also not much of a meat-eater). I have removed all soy and as of Saturday my symptoms are gone. I'm not saying I still don't have a digestive component to the cea, but I feel I took away a big source of discomfort.
