Guest guest
I am 14 weeks and have not had any sore nipples while nursing. Am I just lucky or is it something I should look foreword to? Spencer only nurses 1 or 2 times a day. I wonder if he will wean soon or continue the 1 or 2 times for a while? Guest guest
Amy, Some women say the soreness goes away in the middle of pregnancy others say it doesn't go away. I think this is one of the many reasons that older babies frequently wean during pregnancy, they don't like being limited at the breast. As for being tired. Are you taking prenatals? Are you getting plenty of iron and rest? The tiredness should also abate in the second trimester. About the nipple pain some women will tell their nurslings that we can nurse for two " ABC's " or something like that and then sing the ABC's two times through and nursing is over. This works with some kids, doesn't with others. HTH Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Sore Nipples and Congrats!! From: Feb98@... Guest guest
Shelby, It truly is dependent on each mother and child. Some women's nipples don't get sore, others it seems almost intolerable to nurse. He could wean or could continue through your pregnancy. It is really hard to predict how an older nursling will nurse through a pregnancy. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Re: Sore Nipples and Congrats!! Amy, That was how I figured out I was pregnant again... my 2 year old was killing me when she nursed, and I was repositioning her several times each nursing! I was irritated when she asked to nurse, mostly because I knew it would be uncomfortable for me. I learned from LLL that this is really common with nursing through a pregnancy, the emotions and sensations can go " thru the roof " sometimes. Like Wendi said, for some women, it's temporary, and for others, it's constant. You might try hand expressing some milk before you latch on to get the milk flowing. It could be that your milk is already adjusting for your unborn baby, and that is working harder to get at the milk he expects to still be there... You might also try adding more cuddle time in without nursing. Giving the satisfaction of your attention might be enough to comfort him until he was ready to nurse briefly. I can't offer much in the way of personal experience, since weaned during my pregnancy, and then resumed a few weeks after was born. However, having an experienced nursling around when your new baby arrives can make loads of difference to your milk supply and to the fullness of your breasts. can help increase the amount of colostrum you'll have for the new baby if he keeps nursing through your pregnancy. He can help relieve the pressure of a new supply of milk after your new baby is born, too. He can also help increase the availability of hindmilk for your new baby by nursing simultaneously, which will help your new baby gain weight quicker and feel full sooner. From my own experience so far, nursing Keely went from " fine " to " agonizing " when I hit the 2nd trimester then it slowly started feeling better lately. I'm now 29 weeks and it still hurts a little bit when she latches on, but nothing like before. Michele, mom of Arran 12-27-93 & Keely 12-5-97 #3 EDD 3-13-00 It's a Boy!
